My #1 film on Flickchart. I tend to let it stand in the top spot in place of the whole trilogy, which, collectively, is my favorite film. And I can't see them being replaced any time soon.

The greatest movie ever made. Sure it's a bit far-fetched because of the fact it is a fantasy flick, but it can be interpreted as a war film, the performances are thick and it stands as one of the most beautiful films to date. A Beautiful can go and fuck itself.

Oh I so want Flickchart to have the Lord of the Rings be one movie here....I hate having to put the trilogy and 1,2 and 3 on my Flickchart....Its too hard for me to put these anywhere else

Ya, same here. I find it annoying have all three or two of the same trilogy in my top 20

The best film of the second-best trilogy ever (only the original Star Wars trilogy can top it).

I respect your opinion and I agree that FOTR is the best, but Return of the Jedi, for me, is quite weak and therefore my 2nd favorite trilogy, possibly even third?

ROTK is my favorite of the LOTR trilogy, but yes this is the most consistently good trilogy out there in my opinion.

I agree with this being the best film of the trilogy. I've been getting backlash on that, but I don't even think it's close.

Sir Christopher Lee also starred in this film!!! Seriously, he is the most forgotten actor of all time, been in over 200 films and this is one of his most famous and yet he isn't one of the starring actors!?! Without him, where's the villain of this film?

That said, the most legendary film and one of the best imo

Overrated, I've seen them so many times, but now it's been some time... I'll read the books then I'll rewatch the movies for the tenth time or something.
7/10 for now.

Dull, overlong, characters are boring and too CGI heavy. Why is it so loved?

Never really saw it as overlong. Personally, the film knew how to balance its length with a very good usage of tone.

Ok, so it took me forever to finally see this, but I did my due diligence, bought the trilogy, and made a weekend of it. I have to admit my opinion may be a little more invalid than some because some of the movie elements and CGI are a bit outdated now. Therefore, I'm leaving the cheesy CGI out of it. Overall, FOTR is my favorite in the trilogy and I feel pretty confident in that. It is a grand adventure and I never once felt bored like people said I would. The final scene in the forest is epic and the death of Bean's character was tough. As for the last two (i'm not going to comment on the others to save time) are not as good imo. They needed an editing treatment and the final movie felt like it had taken a bunch of alternate endings and threw them into a mixing pot. Overall though, great trilogy, the first one was my favorite by far.

I liked it. It's... pretty good. That's it! It's a solid 7/10 for me. I don't get why people call it one of the all time greatest movies.

2001 makes LOTR look like garbage and that's really saying something considering that all three movies are near perfect. Easily the greatest trilogy ever

Excellent well-made adventure film especially when compared with mediocre output of current superhero movies. Grand old fashioned entertainment.
