Hello,i'm Paulo Orlando. Judging by my previous experience living in Arkansas and hearing those delightful Rednecks trying to say my first name, you can just call me Orlando, "Brazilian Guy" , or "The broke 3rd World version of Jeremy Renner", any of the three will do. My nickname is not related to the movie "SHOWTIME" especially because it really sucked bad. I judge movies by personal memories, the moment in my life when i watched, and a lot of arbitrary things. I hate pompous movie critics that pretend they're judging the meaning of existence and they can kiss my crackhole. It's a pleasure meeting you. =)

That's what happens with people w/ good taste for movies! great comment on " a part of me wanted to add more obscure or older movies to appear more 'respectable'" but I knew I would just be lying to myself and everyone else." man.....that's very very honest and i bet there's tons of guys that really doesn't dig the cult classics so much, they just wanna look intelectual. lol

I like watching obscure/intellectual films just so I can make weird Flickchart comparisons that no one else has attempted. I'm not really an intellectual, but occasionally I find movies that I enjoy when I watch arty or obscure films.

I write comments mostly so I'll have a record of my thoughts on the movies I saw. I tend to forget most movies if I don't write about them. Maybe 1000 years from now, future movie watchers will use my comments as a sacred source of wisdom.

Thanks for the compliment! My Flickchart is, of course, always in flux, but even more so lately as another user has really gotten me to think even harder about matchups between my highest-ranked movies.

I always enjoy looking at other users' charts to get ideas for recommendations. Easily my biggest "want to see" in your current Top 20 is Moon.

Moon is just a amazing ride from the begging and i realy recommend it John. You REALLY should see it,hardcore science fiction fan or not. It's amazing how this movie doesn't get that much credit....low budget, amazing storytelling, very good directon by Duncan(Believe it or not he's David Bowie Son..how awesome is that?) and a TRULLY incredible perfomance by Sam Rockwell. Oh,Kevin Spacey voice too. What more do you need?

Ah, I see. I'm taking a somewhat different approach - if I've seen a movie, I have it added in my list.

I'd recommend Infernal Affairs (a shame that you've seen the remake (The Departed) though) since it's my favourite movie, and A Fish Called Wanda. John Cleese' best effort - except Fawlty Towers, of course.

Hell yeah, I've got plenty of recommendations. Jackie's stuff from the 80's was absolutely insane. I'd start with Police Story 1 and 2, Drunken Master 1 and 2 (a.k.a. The Legend of Drunken Master), Project A, Wheels on Meals, and Dragons Forever.

Donnie Yen's another guy who's really good. Check out Tiger Cage 2, In the Line of Duty 4, Iron Monkey, Sha Po Lang (a.k.a. Kill Zone), and Flash Point.

Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao grew up with Jackie Chan and they've made some incredible movies. You've got Warriors Two, Magnificent Butcher, Eastern Condors, Knockabout, The Prodigal Son, and Righting Wrongs (a.k.a. Above the Law).

Crippled Avengers is a great old-school kung fu movie and Ong Bak, Tom Yum Goong (a.k.a. The Protector), and The Raid are some new ones that kick tons of ass.

If you wanna ask me any more questions, feel free to. I don't mind at all.

No problem. A lot of the movies I mentioned aren't going to be found in stores, so you'll have to order them off of the internet. Where do you live? I think most of the movies are going to have region-free DVDs, so they should be able to play anywhere around the world.

The Avengers deserves to be #1. But that's old news. Prometheus was amazing. Loved it. I left the theater trying to answer the questions I was left with. Scott did a great job. I got soooo excited at the end scene. I went to the showing by myself and I wish I had someone to talk to about it.

Reelz on 6/22/2012 Reply  ·

I'm glad someone else agrees! Your reasoning for choosing it over Alien was descriptive and was almost exactly what I was thinking about with that matchup. Sure Alien is down about 3 spots lower than Prometheus on my chart, but I don't give a damn.

I did enjoy Alien the first time I saw it though. I was born in the 90's and I think the only reason why I didn't quite enjoy it as highly as everyone else was because I grew up in the generation that introduced CGI as a mainstream device. I'm guessing this same reasoning goes behind me not liking the original Star Wars as much either. I do love the sequels to both Alien and Star Wars more than I do with the originals though. I don't even know why.

I'm sure my hype for Prometheus will go down over time, but for the time being, I can say that I really loved it. The performances were outstanding and honorable mentions go to Fassbender and Idris Elba. I cared about them two the most. I also love the way the films leaves questions open. I'm still wondering to this day what the hell the black stuff was...

Totally, i'm also a 90's kid and that "CGI going mainstream" train of thougt really makes sense in my mind, also. It's like i wrote down there,Prometheus left some questions unanswered by purpose,Ridley Scott did the whole Prometheus concept being a trilogy. And you know what? I'm pretty sure it will be better and better 'till the conclusion. My hopes are really high for this franchise. The only point that you made that i strongly disagree is regarding Star Wars: C'MON DUDE,really? The new ones over the originals? Well,i guess George Lucas would be proud. Lol!!! Anyway, you have a awesome flick list and a great taste for movies dude. Keep chartin'!

Reelz on 6/22/2012 Reply  ·

Wait, what? Lol. I love the originals way more than the prequels. The only prequel that is at least half as great as the originals is Revenge of the Sith, that's it. What I meant by the sequels to Alien and Star Wars are the films Aliens and Empire Strikes Back. Those are better than their original predecessors.

And yes, a Prometheus trilogy would be great and I would pay good for money for them as long as they're being done by Scott.

Thanks for the compliment on my chart. You have really great taste too. I seemed to have only seen about half of your top 10 though. I really gotta check out Tintin.

Tintin is so freakin' underrated, that i can't believe it. Even Spielberg said that is one of his best movies ever, and i strongly agree with that concept. It has Hergé's spirit n' style on every single frame, translated perfectly to the screen on a animation that i really couldn't help to go back to watch over and over again. Great acting and voiceovers (actors did the moves and the voices of the characters, like in a theater show) and two of the best Tintin books made into a wonderful movie. i highly recommend it.

And you have a pretty awesome top 20 too, but like Reelz, I have seen only 50% of them. I plan to see Moon pretty soon, because I keep hearing great things about it. And I think I'll give TinTin a watch too; I loved the cartoon series as a kid, I loved the mystical elements in those episodes, just like in the Indiana Jones movies. So having Spielberg as the director makes this movie sound like pure fun.

Hey,MysticSpoon has enough awesomeness without the attack, rest assured! lol !!! And talking about flicks, believe me,"Tintin" really stands up to Spielberg as one of his best flicks ever. It's like i told Reelz,it's insane how this movie is underrated. I really recommend it. "Moon" is a Sci-Fi classic with a very low budget and a IMMENSE amount of good acting by Sam Rockwell. The whole concept of the plot is pure genius stuff too. It's almost hard to describe it without spoilers.

Hehe, thanks. To be fair I'm not a big fan of the Nolan Batman movies; none of them is my favorite Batman movie (that is Batman: Mask of the Phantasm) and none of them is close being my favorite Nolan movie (that is Inception). But I do like how this trilogy is really solid; sure, most people prefer The Dark Knight (because believe it or not that's what most people saw first), but I've also seen a lot of people who prefer Batman Begins or The Dark Knight Rises, there really isn't a weak link. It's not like The Godfather or Indiana Jones series where nobody thinks the last is the best. They each have their strengths and weaknesses. Batman Begins: great origin story, but underwhelming second half. Dark Knight: best villain, but Bruce Wayne is uninteresting. Dark Knight Rises: most emotional investment, but obvious plotholes. Batman Begins is definitely my least favorite of the three and also to this day my least favorite Nolan movie (I have yet to see Insomnia and Following). But choosing between The Dark Knight and Rises...it's tough. But both great movies.

Oh, did you hear about Will Ferrell's movie he's going to make with Jack Black called Tag Brothers? It's a true story of friends who take tag very seriously, even into their 40's! They'll even fly cross country and take leave off work to play. :D I can totally see Ferrell doing this! I can't wait! What's your opinion?

First time i heard about "Tag Brothers"! It sounds amazing! Will it's quite familiar n' successful with his "family" matters. "Step Brothers",to this day, still my favorite Ferrell flick. Jack Black lost his touch a little bit,but i think he can work well with Will. (We didn't saw both together on-screen since Anchorman!) Anyway...can't get enough of Will Ferrell. A movie comes up,i'm watching it premiere day. :)

It is something really especial dude. I think you're gonna love it! To this day, when my personal friends ask me to recommend a more "obscure" movie, "Intouchables" is my first pick. So special and so underrated sometimes.

Yep, I can't complain really. You ever think of coming to Australia to have a look around? I just finished working with a Brazilian not that long ago called Stouffer. Is that a common name over there?

Dude,"Stouffer" isn't a common name here AT ALL. I never heard about it before. Are you sure this is the right one? So anyway...thanks for all the Aussie recommendations,i actually watched "Mad Max",but i didn't know it was from there. Anyway...A aussie trip is a matter of money. I hope i have enough someday to visit. lol!

Haven't you seen the first two Mad Max movies? They're great Aussie movies!

Romper Stomper is a great early Russell Crowe movie about racist skinheads.

Other good Aussie movies are.

Animal Kingdom
Snowtown (disturbing)
Mary & Max
The Proposition
The Black Balloon
Wolf Creek
Rabbit-Proof Fence
Chopper (Eric Bana's best performance)
The Castle (Aussie humour)
Gallipoli (Mel Gibson)

Hey SLions! Thanks dude! Yeah, BttF II it's pretty damn awesome. Not even touches the first one,but i really do enjoy it. Unfortunately, even the most passionate fan can't really sell the last entry of the franchise. Well,we had a pretty good Mcfly run i guess. :)

You seem to of not liked your last few movies mate. :) I was planning on seeing Pain and Gain next week, why didn't you like it? My cousin is in The Great Gatsby for a very short time. :) This is the End seems lik it should work for you, too bad it didn't.

I joined the Facebook group, which I see your in. I sent a message for everyone, twice!! But it kept failing for some reason. I'll try again later. :)

Dude, what can i say? It's a tough, tough year for movies,as far as my taste for them goes,Shane. Really tough. I even tried to watch some movies you mentioned twice (Pain & Gain/This Is The End) but it REALLY wasn't for me in both cases. "The Bling Ring" , "42" , and even "Monster University" are making this year for me so far. "Iron Man 3" wasn't so bad either. But all,and i mean all the flicks i expected a lot failed to impress me on the summer season. Still have to see "Elysium" n' "Pacific Rim". Maybe they reedem 2013.

Hey Saddler! Welcome! I really do love "Some Like It hot",and it made me a instant Billy Wilder fan. "The Apartment" is also a really good one, have you watched it? Jack Lemmon performance in both of them is just genious, but when you add Marilyn n' Curtis to the mix, boy oh boy,it turns out to be something really special.

I hope you didn't misunderstand me,I loved The Apartment,I just love his other film's more.Fred MacMurray was a fantastic villain.I guess I was a little confused by the ending. When I watched it,it seemed sad.He just kept telling her he loved her,but all she wanted to do was play card's!Am l wrong, was the last line supposed too mean she finally loved him?
