Can't believe I never commented on this film here. I've seen this movie 11 times, mostly the original cut since I don't prefer the DC. I love the atmosphere and the vibe of this movie, it nails the time period and the feeling of coming of age mixed with sci-fi and neo-noir. Every time I view it I get something different; Is Donnie actually crazy (does he have a mental illness) or is he actually special abilities spawned by his unique circumstance. Should he sacrifice himself to save so many? DO people who we think suffer from mental illness actually have abilities outside of time and space that fucks with their brains and we just can't comprehend them? Do people who think they can talk to God and lie about actually have a mental illness but it's so normalized no one questions it?
