I'm changing my mind and wondering why I had to. I do really love Braveheart but The Shawshank Redemption gets better with every viewing and recently took over my #1 spot.

Two films that are among the very best of the 1990s. That said, Braveheart is the better of the two. It is an ambitious, grand epic with action, political intrigue, and a love story. It just makes Shawshank seem small by comparison.
Shawshank by far. Brilliant storytelling and acting which beats Braveheart any time of the day.

Shawshank takes the cake for its greater characters and story despite Braveheart being an awfully awesome movie!

Braveheart is my number 1 out of the 1,800 movies I've seen, it beats TSR but not by much. I fell in love with Braveheart at 11, and I love it and appreciate it even more so now. Yup 11 yo me loved this movie, I laughed/cried/raged/cheered/cried again, so powerful!
