Thanks for the comment. I don't think Halloween will ever leave my top 5. It may not have been the first, but it is the quintessential slasher flick and it's sad to see most modern horror fail because directors seem to think gore and brutality equals "scary."

American Beauty is really good. Everything is top notch on all fronts, except maybe the script, which I found a bit iffy on a second viewing. There are some moments of pseudo-profundity that made me hang my head in disbelief. But overall, it does a nice job of showing the dysfunctional and moribund side of suburbian living. Ricky's and Lester's arcs were easily the most memorable.

Still has a place in my top 65.

Yes, every time I watch I'm floored by Kevin Spacey's performance. Oh yeah, slashers are my absolute favorite too. I started watching them when I was a little kid so each one I watch always brings back nostalgia from my early movie-watching days. The "Friday the 13th" series is probably my all time favorite slasher series strictly because of Jason; he's a tank. "Part VI" is my personal favorite of the series. My personal all time favorite slasher film is definitely the original "Halloween". It was the first slasher film I watched and Michael Myers still terrifies me to no end (I think I might have been traumatized by him at an early age).

Well I definitely can't argue with you on that haha. I can see why many people might call Forrest Gump overrated, but to me it is probably the most epic story on film, I constantly go back and forth with it and American Beauty for my top spot, but it's great to see my top 3 films in your top 10! And Sling Blade is a movie that I hope to get around to seeing very soon.

Well, I watched Cap 2. I gave it a 4.5/5 on Letterboxd. I enjoyed the political thriller element of the plot, but I think it could've been pushed further, instead, it got kinda goofy at the end. I loved the score for when The Winter Soldier appeared, and thought Black Widow was used very well. I thought Falcon was kinda useless. There was that one cool action scene, but other than that, I felt the character was pretty useless. There was quite a coincidence! I watched half of this 1998 Yugoslav film called Black Cat, White Cat, right. Then, I went and saw Cap 2. When I got back, the woman, despite looking younger, looked familiar to me. I look her up (Branka Katic), and she was in Cap 2! :O What are the odds of that happening?!

Did you watch the after, and mid credit scenes?

Yeah, he's not bad, but he's nothing without hiw wings. He couldn't even beat up that soldier. Hopefully he gets upgrades in future films, because he would be destroyed by most people with powers.

cheesydog1 on 4/26/2014 Reply  ·

Ya other than the wings he is a wimp I can see him easily get beat up by the winter soldier I think they should upgrade him in the future where he has some sort of armor on his body because again other than his wings he's almost nothing
By the way I'm seeing Amazing Spider Man 2 next weekend what are your thoughts on it.

1 person liked this  √

I thought it was better than the original Amazing Spider-Man, but there's quite a few goofy things. I like Electro, which surprised me because I thought he looked ridiculous in the still I saw last year. What I didn't find convincing was Foxx as Max. Not a very convincing nerd if you ask me. Dane Dehaan does a great job of making me sympathise with his character.

I thought it could've been shorter, and I didn't like how they used Paul Giamatti as comic relief.

I would give it a light 4/5.

*******Spoilers for The Amazing Spider-Man 2********

Do you mean Electro dead? Nah, he'll be part of the Sninister Six film I assume.

I also found the motivations for Max and Harry to be very petty. Aw, Spider-Man didn't help us, so we hate him so much!!! Especially Electro. He gets shot at, then instantly blames Spider-Man? I found that a bit weak. But I still enjoyed the Electro character more than I thought I would.

Nothing about the Rhino character was great.

*********Spoilers for The Amazing Spider-Man 2******

Sorry, I accidentally left a comment on Nayr111 page that was meant for you. I've been to a bunch of pages today, so I got all confused. The letterboxd comment is meant for you. Disregard the Rhino comment, as you've already answered it. :)

Hmm man that's a tough one I don't hardly remember this film at all you probably heard of it Hostel Part 2 I haven't seen the first but wow just wow and also one that's not like gory or anything but it's a really gross and disgusting film called Worm Eaters I don't want you to be grossed out when I tell you this because after watching like maybe half of it it made my sick to my stomach and I didn't want to eat for three days where it shows close ups of these guys eating worms and all the poop drooling out of there mouths it's all close up to and they put them in burgers cake pizza it makes me sick talking about it watch a trailer and you'll get an idea what's going on the movie sucks and I mean suck I posted a comment about it on here so ya if you have a squeamish stomach than I would no recommend it well I don't recommend it at all really

Oh, I understand you being Dixie Ed by Hostel 2. In fact, I was disturbed by Hostel 1. :) I have a phobia of eyes being hurt, so a certain scene in that film put my head in a dark place.

Worm Eaters sounds disgusting, but I might watch a tiny bit just to ease my curiosity.

I've seen a little bit of Cannibal Holocaust, but it got deleted off my Foxtel when I ran out of room. It's on next week, so I might watch it then.

Martyrs is a great film, but that's also really disturbing.

But, from what I've heard, A Serbian Film, and Salo are the two most disgusting films.

I may disappear soon. It's 12:24 am on Sunday here. :)

One that I thought was really overrated I think maybe considered is best was Trainspotting it was so hard to sit through the whole film not because of the drug stuff mainly because it was super boring what's the point to the film except for people taking heroin

My favorite band would have to be The Beatles, but I also really like Pink Floyd,The Rolling Stones,The Kinks,The Doors and Bob Dylan.I agree that Dylan is a fantastic songwriter, and I'll admit his voice dosen't sound pretty, but there's something that just sounds really honest about it.

Do you like The Beatles?

Clerksmis a weird one for me. The two times I watched it on tv, I really, really enjoyed it. When I bought the DVD, I don't know, something was off! Maybe it was the film, maybe it was just the timing, I don't know! I will need to give it another go someday. :)

Glad you loved Ikiru. I know I love it and I loved it but there's just one question. What significance do you draw from the film's final act: the funeral segment? It slowed the film down for a short while and picked itself up again. I would just like to hear people's thoughts on the last act of Ikiru and what meaning they draw from it. I do want to see it again very soon!

It's a living, breathing movie with a pulse. It just fucking moves. The music, the incredible cast. I'm laughing one minute at how sick it all is and then I'm moved the next. It's this lively movie about a bunch of losers. But I love those losers. I care about them. And I'm impressed that Welsh and Boyle and Hodge could make such an entertaining movie about these losers. And again, the music. I cannot stress how awesome that soundtrack is. It's one of the most entertaining movies I've ever seen and I fell in love with it the first time I saw it. Film is sights and sounds and words. You use those to communicate, all of em together. It's a blast when Boyle does it.

Directed by, and Starring Robert Duvall, it's the story of Apostle E.F, a preacher goes to Louisiana, after his life spins of of control. Like Sling Blade, the character is interesting, and the writing shows the good, and bad of the character. It also stars Billy Bob Thornton in a small, but memorable role.

In answer to your query about the Stanley Kubrick films, well . . . I wanted to watch all of his works, with his final Eyes Wide Shut being the last I see, so that meant I inevitably had to watch his first two features that nobody remembers: Fear and Desire and Killer's Kiss.
Killer's Kiss was semi-competent with a few moments of greatness sprinkled around. It wasn't particularly challenging or fresh, but it functioned as a standard narrative piece.
Fear and Desire, Kubrick's first feature, is a mess. It includes lots of rambling dialogue that thinks it's smarter than it is, and while Kubrick's prior career in photography may have lended to the appealing (but not Strangelove or Shining level) cinematography, most of the performances were dreadful.
Then I watched Eyes Wide Shut, and that made it all worth it. What a fantastic film! It's easily my favorite Tom Cruise performance, with excellent visuals and an atmosphere that just saturated the celluloid, whatever that means. Also a very funny film, on a non-surface level. A lot of the absurdities are humorous, when thought about in heinsight. And the massive orgy scene . . . Wow. I was shaken. One of the most powerful scenes I have ever seen. Just a classic Kubrick film.

What are your thoughts on Kubrick? I see you have The Shining in your top 5! I'd say he's my all-time favorite director as of now. Have you seen all of his films? Are there any you haven't seen, but want to?

Zodiac was very impressive. It was also kind of creepy in a way since it's portraying actual real events. Even how accurate they were able to re-create the murders down to the exact clothes the victims were wearing. It also made me look at Dirty Harry in a different way. I really enjoy that movie as well but had no idea that it was inspired by the Zodiac murders.

Haha I agree. A lot of people seem to be getting excited for it but most of the creative decisions on the film have left me scratching my head. I thought it would have been cool to make it like the original comic books which were very dark, even far more so than the 1990 film, but I'm sure they want to cater to a wide audience.

I had not heard of Calvary. I looked it up and it looks really interesting. Do you know if that's getting a wide release or will it only be limited?

And do you think it will ever change? How loyal and/or biased are you to that movie? Also, the same questions apply for your top 5 as well as your top 10. Are they pretty much edged in stone on your chart or have your top 5 and/or top 10 changed over the past few years?

I don't have that much biase towards shawshank, as i feel it is the best film of all time and i love the film. It could change at anytime as i could rewatch a film and love it and say this is my favourite film of all time, but for now i would say my top 30 are set in stone as of now. The only film that i recently seen that has broken into the top 5 is Schindlers list.

One of the main actors was a homeless man, they found him dead a fe months after the film wrapped. He was fantastic in the film, in my opinion.

Thank you for your reply to my earlier question(s) about your favorite film and your top ten. I asked this question to various people because I've battled with replacing my #1 film for over a year now. I saw Casablanca for the first time in 1999 I think. It left a profound impression on me. It soon became my favorite film as I would routinely revisit it. So, for roughly 15 years, Casablanca has been my favorite film. I've had some really good times with it as well. I first saw it when I was in the military. I just relate to so much of the film. Oddly enough, I relate to both Victor Laszlo AND Rick Blaine!! Victor for the military lifestyle that requires you to be away from the love of your life, and Rick for the duality of choosing between someone you love and doing the right thing. So many themes strike all the right chords with me.

Fast-forward the time to 2013. I saw Vertigo for the first time ever. It blew me away more than any film I had ever seen. Everything about it was brilliant. And the more I watched it, I began to develop an obsession for it. I've never watched a film so many times in such a short span. I watched Vertigo more than ten times in a month. It just drew me in. I wanted to put it as my #1 film, but I didn't want to make a decision based on a knee-jerk reaction. So, I gave it time to see if my affinity for it would lessen. I even forced myself to stop watching it so much. Well, a few weeks ago, I showed it to some friends and family. I discovered that my affection for this film hadn't changed a bit. So now comes the hard part. I almost feel like I'm cheating on Casablanca if I put Vertigo #1. To answer my own question, I'm very loyal to my favorite film of all time. But I think the time has come for me to be true to my chart and put Vertigo at #1.

I've seen Casablanca recently and I still love it as much as I did when I first watched it. But I think I enjoy Vertigo from start to finish a little more than I love Casablanca from start to finish.

I know I'm probably taking this way too serious, but watching movies is one of my favorite pass times. What do you think? Have you ever had this dilemma?

To be honest, not too good at the moment. Played basketball last night, and my rib was elbowed out of place. Luckily, the big guy on their side out it back in when I collided with him on the next play. But it's so tender at the moment.

I'm excited that I finally get to see Snowpiercer this weekend!

I loved Snowpiercer.

I watched The Babadook twice in two days. I watched it again to view it from a different perspective. Definitely check it out.

Thanks, I didn't even know it was thanksgiving, just a Friday in Australia. :)

I don't know what's happening with him. I've seen his two profiles active over the last few months, but he hasn't responded. He hasn't been on Letterboxd, so I don't know what's happening.

It was really slow in the beginning but when it started to pick up I was on the edge of my seat I found it to be really disturbing and intense but I was really bored with the beginning portion of it so I would say it was pretty good I had no idea either that it was inspired by true events.

I understand, but I actually enjoyed the start. I think we learn more about the characters, so when Mick does show up, I'm invested in them surviving.

Yep, and it's totally fine that you think that about the start of Wolf Creek.

Wolf Creek 2 was released early last year, and I loved it. Very different to the first. You might actually enjoy the sequel more based on what you've said. It spends less time getting going. I definitely reckon you should give it a go to see what you think.

hey dude how u doing i have been thinking of perfect questions to ask a movie fan, and i think i have found it so, if you could remake any franchise who would be the first three actors your would cast, who would they play and who would direct, i would remake the classic peter cushing frankenstein movies and i would have christian bale as the dr frankenstein, chris pratt as the hero, and dwayne johnson as the monster with tim burton directing
