Saw vs. Hostel

Good question!!!

Hostel has no redeeming value, Saw at least is a good mystery.

Saw was original and entertaining. Hostel was over the top and disgusting, and a little entertaining.

This is close. Saw has more mystery and suspense, but for some reason I was more entertained by Hostel. I remember seeing Hostel in the theater and the audience clapping at certain points. I seemed to care more about the people that were involved in Hostel than I did the two guys in Saw.

I enjoy the surprisingly thought-provoking brutality of the second half of Hostel, but the first half is almost a nigh-unwatchable parade of half-naked girls and idiotic behavior. Saw, however, is excellent all the way through, full of clever set pieces, unexpected twists and turns, a killer ending, and an artful hand behind the camera. Not to mention its message is just as valid, and delivered in a much more effective way.

Hostel, simply because it's the more fun of the two and it's got a sense of humor. Saw's too dry for it's own good, I think, or it hold's back too much or something. I dunno. Hostel's not perfect, but put 'em in front of me and ask me to choose - it's Hostel, baby. Love James Wan, though.

Saw, by far and away. Must say, I enjoyed both a ton though...

Saw. No question.

Outrageous concepts with dreadful execution. Not enough thematic depth to justify the sick sadism. In spite of all that, I kinda enjoyed Hostel's half-assed critique of modern consumerism. I can't help but laugh at Saw after Scary Movie 4.

Hostel isn't a good movie, but it was creepy, sick, and entertaining. Saw felt like amateur shit.

There is no comparison here. Saw was never intended to be a torture porn film. It was a joint venture of two of the best directors and writers in the horror genre - Wan and Whannel. Hostel is a piece of trash written and directed by a piece of trash -Eli Roth, who exploits his 'friendship' with Tarantino to try to give his sickeningly bad films merit. What a shameful thing it is to call Saw torture porn. The film was later exploited into a franchise, but nothing beats the originality and creativity of the original.

Saw was crafted to keep you on the edge of your seat and Hostel was just exploitive fun.

Never really liked Hostel, I couldn't get into the whole torture porn thing. I'll give Saw credit for having a bit more to it than that, it's not perfect but it's a lot more creative and interesting than Hostel.
