Martin Scorsese is a great director but, man, Mean Streets is an overrated film.

Strong performances by everybody here, and you can see some of the directorial stylings that would resurface in Taxi Driver, but this is a lesser Scorcese film. 6/10

I had to look up if this was a student film or not. It’s kind of a jumbled mess with good performances from De Niro and Keitel.

I wasn't expecting much from this movie after having already seen Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, The Departed, Casino, The Irishman, and many other Scorsese movies, but this movie deserves more recognition. The presentation still holds up. The camera work and editing set the stage for his future movies, and the soundtrack is perfect. Its IMDB rating of 7.2 is shockingly low for such a classic. I'd give it at least an 8/10.
