Let's just put it up front. We can tell immediately why anyone would fall in love with Monica Vitti. That's believable. Now...why would anyone fall for Ferzetti's character is beyond me. But maybe Vitti's character is just that messed up. And maybe that's what makes the film heartbreaking. maybe.

Bad acting of a bad script full of bad characters slogging through a so-so story. There are some beautiful locations and some clever shots, but this is a LONG 144 minutes with no payoff.
