Based on the book by Raymond Chandler, I say this was a good adaption from book to screen. Many people might just remember this film for Lana Turner standing in her white bathing suit but it is one of the greatest film noirs.

Loved the twists and turns, didn't go the way I was expecting it to the entire time. That being said I wasn't crazy about the production code ending and the reason for the title being the way it is.
