Welcome to my top 30! This is just my kind of film. Very dialogue driven and it has a great mystery. Humphrey Bogart makes it, though! If he wasn't casted, I honestly can't see this movie working. He hits all of the right notes and gives a good blend of smart, wit yet can be serious when the film needs him to be!

A mixed bag. Bogey’s Sam Spade is an incredible character, and there are some other great ones in supporting roles. Some brilliant and very funny lines of dialogue as well. But the plot is a convoluted melodramatic mess, with most of the action taking place offscreen and being explained in lengthy villain monologues.

This is probably the greatest detective film of all time and deserves to be in the top 100 easily.
