An awesome (and ridiculously overlooked) western.

Christian Bale is currently the dean of the Clint Eastwood School of Overacting through Understatement, and this might be the film where he is most inappropriately subdued and nuanced. Russell Crowe is the bad guy with the heart of -- if not gold, then some sort of bronze; his relatively straightforward performance seems like hysteria compared to Bale's phlegmatic reading.

All in all, this seems seems so blah. Not bad, but meh.
