I found it quite overrated. I mean, it’s not bad by any means; but really it’s mediocre at worst and O.K. at best. I found a lot of the comedy hit or miss, some jokes (like the opening ones) had me laughing, while many hit flatter then Hans Gruber. And the movie has many inconsistencies, like how one minute, laws are just like real life, but then in the blink of an eye Happy can just assault whoever he wants without any problems. Also what was the point of the abusive elderly carer? He adds nothing, and just makes you wonder why Happy’s Grandma doesn’t just tell someone about him? My biggest problems with the film though come from the characters: firstly, the love interest and grandma barely have personalities for being so important to the plot. They just seem, nice, and like Happy so much for some reason; it’s never established or explored why they care for him despite him being a jerk. Speaking of which, I found Happy to be a very unlikable character. He just beats up anyone who looks at him funny, and it’s for character development or anything, it’s just to be funny, which it’s kinda hard to be when he does it all the time (though I will admit that fight with the old man was actually really funny.) And he just looses his temper and gets everyone around him hurt just for giggles I guess. Maybe I’m explaining it poorly or watched the movie wrong but I just don’t see why the movie’s so beloved, it’s just a weak comedy with a few laughs. But as much as I think this movie is overrated, I will say the villain of the movie (both the actor and character) killed it! He was actually really funny and had the best jokes around him, and was just fun to watch. But yeah, I’d probably give it a 5/10.
