2018 movie #13: Deadpool 2. This sequel suffers from trying a little too hard. The first had a nutty and self-aware character in a rather serious world. Here, I’m not too sure what the style is. From about the 3rd scene to about halfway through, there was far too much seriousness for a movie like this involving themes like self-pity and redemption and I probably only laughed twice during that point. After that though, it does become more comedic again making the tone a little jarring actually. Yeah, these two movies don’t have the best stories and this one does tend to copy off the first one a little. But I can forgive my issues if it has good action, a little bit of quirkiness and memorable sequences with the dialogue and humour (despite my flaws with the first, it does have all these things); but, unfortunately, it doesn’t making for a mediocre movie. 5/10.

This is probably a generous rating for a movie that just isn’t very good. It really didn’t know what it wanted to be. Very haphazard as it occasionally tried to reach for emotion that just wasn’t available to what is basically a live action cartoon. Was it mocking the genre or was it trying to be a full fledged superhero action flick? Being stuck in the middle, it fails at both.
