Humphrey Bogart is the star of this film and should be credited.

... as should Edgar G. Robinson, who plays the villain.

I don't get it. Cheesy, expository dialogue (bad even for the 40's), poorly developed characters, an implausible and poorly executed story, poor chemistry - all the things that cause me to grimace every time a 40's movie is next on my playlist. I realize I have a terribly case of confirmation bias, but this film confirmed it over and over again. Is this a milestone film in that the whole story occurs in one small setting? Is it "quintessential Bogart and Bacall"? Was a larger body of work inspired by it? Again, I don't get it.
