Del Toro is one of the finest directors out there and this is another gem from a visionary genius. I have never seen carnival life so brilliantly depicted. Cooper, Blanchett,, Collette and Defoe give pitch perfect performances in one of the best films of the year.

Took its time to sink its hooks into me, but when it did, it did for real. Strong performances all 'round. Great cinematography (as usual with Del Toro) and the script really snuck up on me. That ending was excellent. A strong 8/10.

That last scene easily bumped this up 100 spots on my list.

The most beautiful-looking and colourful film noir in existence. Perhaps Bradley Cooper’s best performance.
