Excellent. Fantastic. Abrams succeeds in actual filmmaking in contrast to Lucas's prequel trilogy. One of the year's best for sure. A definite must see.

I actually ended up enjoying the new characters more than the classic ones. Well done, Abrams.

This in my top 3 favorite Star Wars movies. Not Better than Empire but might be just a tiny bit better than the original 1977 movie. But way fucking better than Jedi.

Or at least better than Rogue One.

Actually the original is a little better than TFA but not by much.

I agree. Better than Jedi by a little, but behind IV and V by a lot. And of course worlds better than the prequels!

It has some flaws, but nothing major. Overall I found it to be a great return to form for the series and I had a total blast with it. Not as good as the original trilogy, but much better than the prequels.

I found quite a bit of exposional diolouge in this movie, and I didn't enjoy the out of place humor all that much. Other than those two things I really liked this movie. 8.3/10

The Force Awakens did a great job of continuing the series, but is a little overrated. There were several unoriginal parts (having yet another death star), overly simple and cheesy dialog as well as some character flaws, however, Abrams never made any major errors and he made the light-saber fights realistic, something that the prequels failed to do. Overall, a solid continuation that sets up Episode VIII well. 7.5/10

I agree. The Force Awakens is better than the Star Wars prequels.

It's become more rare as I get older that I've left the theatre feeling like I'm genuinly in the film, but I had that amazing experience with The Force Awakens and it brought back memories of seeing special films and being in complete awe of them as a younger kid.

This film has captured the joy of generations, and has bridged the gap between the original trilogy and the new generation brilliantly.

Its relentless pace, achieved with an absence of any unnesecary plot exposition, compounded with its amazing characters of both new and old and the added touch of true emotions which previously seemed dry in the series made it an incredible experience.

I realise that we aren't supposed to say this, but I think weighing up all the factors, this may in fact be the best Star Wars film ever made.

Better than I expected. Abrams did an incredible job of bringing the fun back into the movies. There were no unnecessary lags in the pace (like the council meetings in the prequels). It felt so close to the originals it was eerie. The effects were very well done, minimal CGI (for a scifi). I watched all the movies recently and can honestly say it's my third favorite behind A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. Well done, I can't wait for the next one. 9/10.

It's good, but flickchart has it ranked way too high. I mean better than anything out of the 2010s, as well as Lawrence of Arabia and It's a Wonderful Life? C'mon.

The characters felt really underdeveloped. The main characters meet and are immediately in love.

Ray takes all of 5 minutes to learn how to use the force?

It took a 2 minute conversation to figure out how to destroy a planet/weapon?

It was entertaining but the story felt really rushed/impatient.

It started off like watching Star Wars with different characters. When Han and Chewie showed up I rolled my eyes and turned it off.

A complete nostalgia fan-service remake of the original, saved by the characters.

Why is this film so hated now? The characters are deep and emotional, the cinematography and action is breathtaking and key moments are earned! It has flaws like Starkiller Base and a couple out-of-place references but that doesn't take away from how great the rest of it was! I'm expecting people who doesn't like it is just following the crowd.

Without the fan service, this may have been a perfect film. How would this film be written if the Prequels didn't exist? - I think the existence of the Prequels is the reason for the fan service. The creators needed to get most of the fans on board with the idea of a new Star Wars movie, so this was the plan. Not unlike adding James Kirk to 'Star Trek Generations' or the obvious story tweaking made in 'Batman V Superman' after the backlash of 'Man of Steel'. Although I resent the fan service, I believed it was necessary for the franchise going forward. All that being said, I adore Rey and Finn as characters (Poe's character seemed to be an afterthought in comparison) Despite my misgivings, this is a top 100 flick in my book.

The Force Awakens was the stuff when it was released. At the time, no one was complaining about it. There were no 2 hour YouTube videos crapping all over the film. Everyone was just amazed in the cinema that we were back in the universe with some fricken great characters and exciting action. And it was all anyone was talking about for about the next month and many people saw it 2-3 times in the cinemas. Even though it had its flaws, it still was a geniuely great movie that destroyed 99% of movies released at the time! It came out at a perfect time and both reinvented the franchise and brought us all what we loved!
