Jeff Bridges disappears into Rooster Cogburn...and yet he's still somehow upstaged by young Hailee Steinfeld. This is the one Coen Brothers film I have enjoyed most consistently...though I might still give the edge to No Country for Old Men. Odd that the only two films of the Coens' that I truly like have such strong ties to one of my lesser-favorite genres...

Joel and Ethan Coen have made a lot of good films, but this one may be their very best.

Pretty mediocre shot-by-shot remake. The original was 10000 times better.

I'm about to give this another shot. I love the cast. Bridges, Brolin, Damon? Wow, great. The John Wayne version is on my top 30, so if I still think it's too similar, I could predict a very low ranking come.

I actually liked the cast better in this version, but it's too similar to the original. Still pretty good, but I prefer the 1969 film.
