The first film of Masaki Kobayashi's Human Condition trilogy is definitely a good start. The cinematography is incredible, there are many powerful scenes and Tatsuya Nakadai is great as always.

Does the Director of this film work for Keyser Söze? Tell me every last detail... all jokes aside, this is an amazing film. Can't wait to see the rest of the trilogy.
