2018 movie #15: Solo: A Star Wars Story. (Star Wars is now just Guardians Of The Galaxy. They used to focus on story; now the focus is on how they’re going to jump to the next action sequence. 5/10.)

Felt more like a Mission Impossible movie than a Star Wars, and is riddled with quick fixes. That being said, I found that all the major plot points were well done, I liked the story's specific focus and LOVED the connections to the rest of Star Wars canon (including Clone Wars and Rebels!)

A good film that highlights stories and characters from Han Solo's past. If you are a long time fan of the expanded universe, don't see this with expectations or you will be sorely disappointed. I never read the former books or comics focusing on Han's life (avoided trailers too), so I was a blank slate entering this film. Compared to the other live action Star Wars films I may have liked this the least, but that doesn't mean this is necessarily a bad film. Chewbacca, L3 Droid, the Kessel Run, and especially Donald Glover's performance as Lando Calrissian are the highpoints of what is largely a predictable heist movie set in the Star Wars universe. Alden Ehrenreich's is a good Han Solo and not a substitute for Harrison Ford. I was able to separate the two in my minds eye, so this was an easy pill to swallow. Overall I 'liked' but not 'loved' this Star Wars Story.

I liked it. I dont live, breathe, and eat Star Wars, so I dont know of if it was off track anywhere, but I felt it was a breathe of fresh air in the series. I wasnt a fan of Rogue One because I felt the pacing was off, but this didn't have any problems at all. Fun characters, great action, a few Easter eggs. I love great story lines and slow burners, but I also like to be entertained and this did it.

An entertaining but very predictable heist film. Glover is great, L3 is a good creation and some setpieces are legit exciting but Ehrenreich never captures Ford's charm. And without a charming Han Solo, it never really justifies its existence.

There are some surprises here and there, though the film lacks the complexity, the substance, and the rewatchability that many other Star Wars movies have.
