I wish I'd seen this movie earlier in my life. I would have enjoyed it more. You have to give Akira respect for being the inspiration to so many Great American film makers.

Just saw it for the first time today. Loved it! I'm just beginning my journey into Japanese films, particularly Kurosawa and Kobayashi. Can't wait!

Don’t care what anyone thinks; this is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. Acting, filmmaking and soundtrack were all amateurish and God was the story just tedious and uneventful. Whoa, it’s told from different perspectives creating different subplots. So what? Doesn’t make the event itself interesting.

The fact that you think the acting, filmmaking, and soundtrack are amateurish is kinda sad. It's brilliantly shot and extremely revolutionary with its style. But then again...you have The Dark Knight in your top 10 above this and so many other movies, so there's that

Lol, who cares how much he likes The Dark Knight? It's a list of his ten FAVORITE movies, not the ten movies he thinks are the most "revolutionary" or whatever. His #1 can be Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot and it wouldn't nullify his opinion on Rashomon.

Did I miss something?By far, Akira Kurosawa's weakest film. The event that's told again and again simply isn't interesting or mysterious. I just don't really gave a fuck about what was the true story. And then, that medium segment... bad, bad, bad movie.

Kurosawa explains how our understanding of the truth is limited to our own perspective. Like finding "one of the best movies ever made" bad.

This movie made me wonder if I was missing something. The central event of the film didn't seem to resemble real world psychology or emotions in a clear way. I don't know if this film said something different to audiences in 1950, but a lot of it just comes across as weird to me. It's well made though, and I'll admit it's ballsy to have a "mystery" where the answer is "nobody knows because everyone is probably lying to make themselves look good". It is a bit unfulfilling though.
It's an expertly written, superbly acted masterpiece that shows how our understanding of the truth is blinded by perspective. One of the best movies of all time, and #6 on my list
