Sure, this movie is great to look at, but it's so much more than just that. It's the most emotionally gripping movie of 2013 (as of October 5th, anyway). A great, great flick.

One of the best movies that I have ever seen. Definitely the most beautiful. Even over "Life of Pi" and "Avatar."

A fully realized picture focused on our protagonist, Ryan. A fantastic movie which explores Ryan's psyche and gives a great character arc. I really love this movie.

Watched it for the 4th time and it's a film that I appreciate more and more every time I watch it! It's visually and poetically beautiful. The cinematography, the editing and the soundtrack is first class! It portrays space the second best out of any film ever (just losing to 2001). Because of the sense of size, and how it portrays the no weight and sound in space thing, it feels very atmospheric and like it was actually filmed in space, not a soundstage! Sandra Bullock gives an Oscar worthy performance and the film is very intense. The characters don't have much development but I'm still gripping my seat for them because of how well made it is and the sense that Ryan is isolated from the rest of humanity. Too bad, a lot of people has a short attention so they can't appreciate artistic driven films like this. I will admit there is a little too much exposition and the scene with Ryan in the pod talking to the man with the dog and the baby should've been cut but that doesn't take away from the great experience this film is!

One of the most overrated movies I've ever seen. The visual effects are great, but Bullock's character was very annoying and unlikeable. The story was bare-bones at best: an astronaut tries to return to Earth. 90 minutes later, she does. The end. Nothing interesting happens and the characters aren't worth caring for.
