Certainly not the shot-for-shot remake that some may have hoped for, this movie instead adds a little more. My checklist of changes to the original was filled out, and some of the new songs were a welcome addition. Watson and Evans were great as Belle and Gaston respectively, and nods also go out to Dan Stevens and Lefou's actor. Where was "Human Again", though???

The original 'Beauty and the Beast' is my favourite Disney movie, so of course I think this is inferior. Mainly because it's always feels shackled to the original even when it wants to try something new - which is a shame because when it is most different, it is at its best. Sure, I don't really think the covers of any of the original tracks live up to their past incarnations (save for Thompson's beautiful rendition of the title song), but 'Evermore' is astoundingly gorgeous and powerful - my personal highlight of the film - and the frequent ironing out of little story kinks and nitpicks was refreshing to see. Not at all a bad film, just a wholly unnecessary one sadly.

I won't go as far to say that this is better than the animated version. We all know that that one came up with most of the songs and iconic moments first. Whereas, this one simply expanded on those ideas. But I will say that I think this one is a more cohesive film with it's story and characters. So I loved this for the nostalgia and for making me appreciate both of Disney's films, that much more.

Better than The Jungle Book remake, but still unnecessary and it doesn't come close to the classic 1991 version.
