"Two very different types of movies. Maybe comparable in a "cult movie" discussion but not much in common other than the fact you really have to pay attention to both to know what's going on. Donnie Darko is on numerous "best movie" lists compiled by both "pro" critics and folks like us. I've watched it twice (the directors cut) in part because I know there can be a fine line between "I don't get it" and "that movie sucked". Well, let me say... I get it. Twice.
