Thanks for the friend request gaveecho. We have very different top tens, but I see that we both like Taxi Driver, The Dark Knight, The Gofather, Pulp Fiction and Goodfellas and plenty more I'm sure. Don't hesitate for a recommendation if you wish, and I will gladly take any also. From your top ten, I haven't seen Tokyo Story, I need to get on that!

Seven Samurai is great. It's one of the only few movies on my top 10 that has stayed consistent since I saw it for the first time. It feels so modern for being a 50's film.

Glad you liked it. You should definitely watch next two Indiana Jones as well. The fourth, though I don't find as bad as they say, may be a disappointment for you.

As I said before, don't hesitate to ask for a recommendation. They don't even have to be masterpieces. I have some cult classics and hidden gems up my sleeve also. :)

The first time I saw SS, I swore I thought I was going to hate it because of its length, it's in black and white, etc. I think it was the film that helped me cross the line in that I can sit through pretty much anything now without complaining of the length; my movie ADHD is gone. I am one happy guy.

Barry Lyndon is phenomenal. It's one of Kubrick's lesser-known films, but I think it deserves more praise. I'm not sure how many other people see 'Lyndon' as their favorite Kubrick film, but it's definitely worth a watch to see if it'll become yours.

It's a bit lengthy but, like with Seven Samurai, the length doesn't matter. It sorta feels like you went on a journey with the characters. In my opinion, Barry Lyndon doesn't even feel like a Kubrick film; it's weird.

It's amazing, for all the wrong reasons. :) it's been awhile, but the scene where he went into the shop to buy something from that woman who tells him he's her favourite customer is one of the most awesomely bad things I've ever seen! Oh man, anytime someone's playing football, priceless! The WORST sex scenes ever!

Imagine Daniel Day Lewis in The Room! Plus he has the lead instead of Tommy Wiseau, but he has to act like Tommy would, ha! He is a method actor after all.

My Left Foot is now one of my favourites of all time. I currently have it placed at #106, with a good chance it'll go up more. His performance is simply jaw dropping. I can't remember the last time I saw acting that good! The kid who played young Christy Brown is great also. Kicking his leg so he can desperately get down the stairs, trying hard to write to show he's smart, I felt the desperation. DDL has some great lines too. Like when he's after a light and says " I don't need a fookin' psychology lesson"

The one part that's debatable is the ending. I looked Christy Brown up, it wasn't exactly great between he and his wife if the stories are to be believed. I just wonder if they could of got another ending to work, or if they tried it would of ruined the rest of the film.

I don't think I would be bored at all by Le Samourai. It's just a really hard movie to find. It was on YouTube for awhile, but only some of it worked.

Yeah, I love TDKR. I see the flaws, yet I still love it. I get drawn to a great villain in movies, that's why The Dark Knight is my number one, among other reasons of course. It took me some time to warm to Bane's voice, but now I love it. I love how everyone says he sounds like Sean Connery talking into a cup. :) I have a very weird complaint. They made a slight change to the line "when Gotham is ashes..... You have my permission to die" from the trailer that I wish they didn't. Hardly noticeable, but after the amount of times I saw the trailer and loved that part, I wished they kept it the same.

It's a tough film to sit through. I remember the first time I saw it that I started watching it at about 9 or 10 o'clock at night and didn't finish it until after midnight. I was so damn tired during it and I was tempted to turn it off half way and continue it the next day, but I pulled through and finished it. It was worth it in the end.

I've heard many great things about North by Northwest. I know how iconic it is too with those scenes with the airplane and the scenes on top of Mount Rushmore. I'll get around to watching it sometime soon. Thanks for the recommendation!

The films that I recommend for you is the rest of Kubrick's films that you haven't seen. Aside from Lyndon, those include: The Killing, Paths of Glory, Spartacus, Fear and Desire, Killer's Kiss, Day of the Fight, Flying Padre, and The Seafarers. You can easily find Fear and Desire, Day of the Fight, Flying Padre, and The Seafarers on YouTube (that's where I found them) and Killer's Kiss is available for streaming on Netflix (if you have Netflix).

Yes UNDERpants! :) If something is going to be shortened, it should be underwear to undies. Unless that's what Irish call a sock. ;) Aussies probably have stupid words also, I guess. :)

Great! I'm really glad that you enjoyed Barry Lyndon. I'm still trying to find myself a copy of it on DVD somewhere. I'm also glad that you know about how Kubrick wanted to use candlelight for indoor scenes instead of key, back, and fill lights; the film is (mostly) well-known for doing this.

Yojimbo is one that I've been wanting to see since finishing Seven Samurai for the first time. Mifune played my favorite character in Seven Samurai and I'm looking forward to seeing what else he has to offer. I'll try and get around to watching it.

Night of the Hunter also sounds interesting. And since you said it reminds you of Lynch, then I'll definitely dig it even more. Thanks for the recommendations!

My top 2000 is pretty accurate, maybe close to 3000. My bottom 100 or so is accurate also. When I say accurate, some movies are in the wrong place, but it's within five or ten places, so it's still accurate enough for me. But if I get around to it, I change it. I keeping fixing my list all the time, mainly when I start ranking a new movie. If I spot a movie down too low, I make a mental note to go back and re-rank. Any movie that is newly added is the most accurate, except for a movie that features in my top 300 or so. Some fall through the cracks though. I got asked the other day why Requiem for a Dream was so low. I checked, and it was in the 2600, right in with some shitty movies. I don't love the movie, but it shouldn't of been that low. I moved it up about 700 places.

I just want to say that I just watched this film Dead Heat, which was a lot of fun. It's terrible really, but there's stuff in this movies that was hilarious! Very tongue-in-cheek. A zombie bank robbery, an attack of a zombie liver, pig, ducks and a bull carcass with no head or insides. :) There's a two-faced biker and a woman that ages right in front of you, which looked great with the practical effects and cgi, until they ruined it with unnecessary cgi on the head saying " I'm sorry" as it badly melted away. Oh, there's a great zombie shootout! Where the two are shooting at each other, but can't kill each other. It's in about eight sections on YouTube if you ever want to see it. It's right up there with Hell Comes to Frogtown for me. But Vampire's Kiss still is the king for such a movie in my opinion.

I won't say much about Side Effects because it's better not to know much. I did enjoy the social commentary on the world of prescription pills and the doctors who prescribe them. That's part of it, at least, anymore will be spoilers because you might read into what I say. It's about a 8/10 for me, but my brother-in-law gave it a 7/10. The Virgin Spring is great, well for me anyway. It starts slow, but it's laying down the groundwork for what happens later. It's about a 9/10 for me, if you want to see it, the whole movie is on YouTube.

I don't know what crack is, unless it's going up your nose (not that i've done it) so i had no idea how to answer that. Also, "you're man" is another that was always used to describe someone. They didn't even know they were doing it. They would be talking about a tv show that they've watched, that I've never seen, and they would say " your man is great in it".......... My man!! I've only seen Tokyo Story once, so I'll give it another try at some point. Ramble as much as you like! And my opinion can change on a second viewing, though usually not from like to dislike (and it has to overcome the factor that I know what'll happen). I really liked Taxi Driver, Vertigo, Magnolia and The Social Network on first watch, but when I rewatched them, I realized how much effort was put in by the directors, writers and actors, and they've gradually climbed higher on my chart. Rewatching can also be a good barometer to its quality--I can compare the movie that's played in my head to the real thing. When I rewatched Pulp Fiction, with about five years in between viewings, I knew nearly every line before it came, and I was still entertained. On the other hand, even rewatching a bit of They Live can be a drag. There are some really great moments and ideas, but there's a lot of tedious filler that people justifiably forget about.

I like all of Bergman's films so far, and they are all high on my list, but I don't think they're films that I will re-watch for a LONG time. I'm on the borderline with surrealist films. I can appreciate the skill that was put into the film, but I'd rather a classic drama or crime film most of the time. I much rather Bergman to Fellini though. I'll probably be checking out some more of his films soon, but so far, I've hated anything by Fellini. Have you seen Bergman's Fanny and Alexander? Fuck that's a long movie. It took 82 mins for me to be interested in the film, but the rest made up for it. Fuck it's a long movie, nearly four hours! Fuck! ;)

We put thongs on our feet. I'm guessing that in Ireland they're called flip-flops. What you call a thong is called a g-string in Australia. It would be funny to see a woman try and wear an Aussie thong as an Irish thong. :) A lamington is a solid square cake that has a soft spongy middle, and chocolate and coconut on the outside. Occasionally you will find them with jam or cream in the middle also. They have to be homemade, they're disgusting from the shops. A bogan is a type of Australian that is the stereotype for Australians. They usually are in fights, have no teeth, drink too much, say g'day mate too much and are generally dressed horribly. Have you ever had a Tim Tam?

If I think of anymore YouTube clips, I'll keep you in mind.

Oh, and tim tams are aussie biscuits made by arnotts. If you ever come to Australia, you have to have a tim tam. You can eat them normally, or do what many Aussies do, and bite two ends off and use it as a straw in milk or tea until nice and gooey. Yum. I liked The Kid, The Circus and The Gold Rush off the top of my head. I think I have to give Modern Times and City Lights another go, it's been a long time. I enjoy elements of Chaplin films, but I don't find them funny. It's rare that older films make me laugh. It just doesn't fit my sense of humour. I loved Gloria Swanson in Sunset Blvd. What did you think of her? I have it right up with Sunrise on my list. I'll be watching Wilder's Sabrina and Lost Weekend soon. I wasn't a fan of Some Like it Hot. Once again, it's just because my sense of humour (side note: fucking hate that spellcheck thinks I spell words like flavour and humour wrong) doesn't fit with older films. Have you seen any Marx brothers films? They don't work either for me.

Yeah, I don't think it's better than Chinatown or Rosemary's Baby, but it's plenty creepy. Like you said, I think it's a pretty simple take on the whole "woman losing her mind" thing with the added sexual intrigue. I suppose it's kind of the blueprint for something like Black Swan (which I really didn't respond to) and Eyes Wide Shut (which I thought was absolutely fantastic). I was really sucked into it, though it's been a while since I saw it.

I looked over your chart and If I had to guess at movies I think you'd really like based on your top 10, I'd recommend Brazil and Glengarry Glen Ross. Let me know if you think I'm missing something worth checking out!

Yeah, totally. Fallen Angels is like a spiritual sibling. Very similar, same ethereal quality. Kaneshiro's great. The visual style's there, the cool music's there, the magic's there. If you loved Chungking Express, there's no way you won't love Fallen Angels.

I'll try and get around to Mulholland Dr. sooner rather than later. David Lynch is a bit daunting. I think I even started Mulholland once, only to turn it off about half an hour in. I've got a couple other pretty involving films to get to as well. A friend here really recommended The Master, I've been sitting on a copy of Ikiru for a long time and There Will Be Blood is due up for a revisit.

Hey, I wanted to let you know I rewatched Tokyo Story. I thought it was better on the second rewatch (and I see what you mean). The big problem I had was that I felt like a voyeur watching this family. Of course, I know that it's fiction, and there's always an element of voyeurism in watching movies/TV shows/reading books, but there's usually something to distance me (like humour). Anyway, I've moved it up 100 spots on my list.

It took some processing (pun intended), but I think ultimately it's great work and my second favorite of Anderson's behind Magnolia. The characters are just fantastic - Phoenix's animalistic rat in a cage and Hoffman's half-baked pseudo-spiritualism are polar opposites, but they work so well together. They're both so like one another and yet so different, they both hate and love each other. I thought it was spectacular. I loved the prison scene - Phoenix kicks and breaks the toilet, Hoffman pees in it. That's these two men summed up in five seconds. There are plenty more scenes that play out just like that one, too. A great story of two miserable people trying to be something they're not. There are more layers in there about subjugation and power and domination, but I'll have to see it again. What did you think of it?

I enjoy Wolf Creek so much because of how good the movie looks, especially when Mick's got the sniper rifle. What did you think of Crumb?

We use shed and garage. When we say shed, it's usually the 'woodshed'' or just normal shed when it's full of your stuff. My shed has weights, pool table, dart board, bed, fridge, recliner chairs, lounge(or couch to you, I think) and a cabinet. So not your typical shed. :) The garage is where the car goes. We might say it different though. How we say garage is very Aussie sounding, Gaaraage. :)

This is what the slang means.

Compo: Workers compensation pay

Bluey: Funny one. It could be a bluebottle jellyfish, blue cattle dog, singlet (usually a bonds chesty singlet) traffic ticket or a redhead. The most common versions I've heard is for that type of singlet, because in the summer, many of the men are wearing them. Also for a redhead for many, it's a nickname.

Buckley's chance: No chance. Kinda like when someone asks you to do something ridiculous you'll say "you've got Buckley's''

Crow eater: South Australian.

Chuck a sickie: Have a day off work.

Tinny: Either a small aluminum boat or a can of beer.

Trackies: Yeah, it's tracksuit here to. But we call tracksuit pants trackie dacks.

Figjam: It's short for "fuck I'm good, just ask me". It's said to people for a laugh, but if someone is acting full of themselves, that's what someone might say to them.

Crack a fat: Get an erection! :D

Franger: condom. :D

Tanked in Australia is when someone is shit-faced, it might be the same in Ireland.

Tool is what you call someone when they're an idiot is Australia.

Nippy: That's when it's cold over here.

I'll have guesses at the others, and rank how right I feel I am.

Banjaxed: Someone stole your banjo, and now claim it as their property. 200%

Black stuff: I'll guess that's what you say when you want guiness. 85%

Jonny: Maybe a cop, or a pedophile. " Hey, there goes that jonny" 100%

Savage: A drunk Leprechaun. Or a party out of control, "this party is savage" 100%

I'm sure every single one is right. ;)

I've told a few people, but I'll tell you as well seeing as you just watched Vampire's Kiss. Look up Nicolas Cage wants cake on YouTube. It's an animated vid that uses the audio from his movie Family Man. :) Oh, don't watch the 3d version- it's not as good. :)

Mama is okay. I think I enjoyed the middle of the film the best. I think they had a few creepy ways of slowly revealing Mama that I won't say. Unfortunately, later I hated the cgi, it was so poorly done. I also found the ending ridiculous. It left me thinking of a huge pothole that didn't sit well with me. But I gave it a pass based on some of the scenes in the middle. I won't rush to see it again. You might get a kiosk out of seeing what's his name from GOT.

I drink some booze, alcohol, piss (I mean alcohol still) :D whatever the name, I drink it. However, I can go quite some time without it. Are you hinting that I'll have to drink like a fish when I'm over there? :) I'm a tall guy, it seems like it takes quite a bit to get me pissed without doing something crazy. I drank a carton of beers in a few hours one night, then spent the rest of the night just walking around talking to everybody just the same as if I hadn't drank any. I don't know about now, it's been a while :D I think I'm out of practice. I wouldn't mind having a drink over there if we went to a pub. :)

I liked Paranorman, but perhaps not as much as I expected. Some of the jokes seemed a bit forced, or predictable, I'm not sure which!
I preferred Frankenweenie which I saw recently. Some of the animation in Paranorman was really enjoyable though, there are some stunning visuals towards the end. :)

******spoilers for Iron Man 3*****

I thought the same about The Mandarin reveal at first. I'm still against it a little bit, but now it's settled with me. When you think about it, Aldrich is The Mandarin really. Behind the curtain, pulling the strings, I'm pretty sure that's what The Mandarin does in the comics. I sort of understand how the comic fans would be against it, but they change stuff in comics all the time, why can't the movies do it as well? Do they really have to stick to the mythology? Rhetorical questions really, you might have an answer though. :)

I personally liked Aldrich more than you. He had the backstory that showed the consequences of Tony's actions. Plus he can bloody breath fire! :)

I really enjoyed how much Tony was out of the suit. I think they did a really good job of exploring the idea that it's the man that is iron man.

Oh, the whole fight with one hand and foot was fantastic.

One thing that bothers me is that if all the suits can work without him, what's the point getting in them at all! I'll let it go though because it set up some great action scenes.

I also enjoyed that it wasn't just another guy in a suit. That would get very stale in every movie, so the sight of Tony in suit fighting Aldrich was fantastic.

Kate and I had a spoilers conversation on the Iron Man 3 page if you want to check it out. :)

It's fine if you still dislike The Mandarin after time, but give it some thought, and it might change. :) The next time I watch it, I'll be thinking of Aldrich as The Mandarin from the beginning, and the actor (can't remember his name) as a channel for his thoughts.

In my opinion, the first two stories are way better than the last. As soon as it was into that story, I was feeling the long runtime. I actually had a hard time keeping my eyes open at one stage. I like the ideas they were going for in that part, but the execution wasn't up to par for me. It was all too neat with too many coincidences.

The other two parts are bloody awesome! Especially the Gosling story, which had a great performance from him. Any part with him on a bike was amazing! The sound was deafening! The second story was that typical cop story, but I love them, so it didn't bother me. It was hard to rank, because the movie is all over the place for me. If I broke it down into sections the first story would get a 9/10, the second 8/10 and the third 6/10.

What did you think of it?

Spring Breakers is a hard one to rank! I think it might drop a bit on my list. It has an unconventional storyline that was interesting, yet annoying at times as well. The start felt like that terrible Project X movie, but I think it was intentional. For me, it felt like it was asking, what would happen if you stayed of spring break? James Franco was the clear highlight of the movie for me. He was hilarious. His song on the piano was funny, and his four little chiccies song was tension building. I won't say much because it'll spoil. But i can see it as a very divisive movie. I liked how unique it was, but don't know if it would hold up on repeat viewings other than Franco.

What, you don't want to know about Manborg!? Hahaha!

Bollocks, haha! I should say that more. Yep, Project X is the definition of said bollocks. :)

****spoilers for Fire in the Sky***** I quite enjoyed Fire in the Sky. It's not amazing, but it had some good moments. I had to look away when the aliens was going to put that needle in his eye. I hate eyes! It's kinda like a phobia I think. It's about a 7/10 for me, maybe a little higher. It was pretty good, but I don't have much to say about it, it's one of those movies.

Excellent film, dude. Surreal, intoxicating, well acted... pretty confusing but then a film isn't Lynchian if it doesn't make you scratch your head. I've been doing a lot of research on the film -- reading various theories and coming up with my own interpretations at the same time. It was slightly funnier than I'd anticipated (at least the first half) and Naomi Watts is a goddess ;)

Lynch is a fascinating director and Inland Empire will wrap up his mindbending trilogy of surreal art. You should give Lost Highway a try. It's slightly darker than Mulholland Dr. but the storytelling is similar. You'll enjoy it, I think.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the film until the wake scene. I just really didn't see the value in dicing it up into a bunch of recollections about Watanabe-san. I thought it dragged the film out in a way that didn't enhance the storytelling and halted the momentum that the film was building. I'm fine with a main character dying off-screen and all, but the only real value to the framing device of the wake scene seemed to be an opportunity to prolong the film and work in a little more of the anti-bureaucracy message. Like I said, I'll for sure check it out again. I didn't like Rashomon much the first time I watched it either and I'm pretty anxious to see that one again. I just didn't fall head over heels for it like I did Yojimbo, Ran or The Seven Samurai.

Speaking of recent additions, I saw you added Strangers on a Train. I hope you liked it! I really responded to it. The plot was great and the acting was just terrific. I can't wait to see my next Hitchcock - Shadow of a Doubt. I hear it's phenomenal.

I'm definitely a Cumberbitch! :D So many great lines! And he does this twitch in the first ep that was so subtle, yet showed precisely what Holmes is thinking. :)

When I left Kelly's Knob, I went over Weaner Creek! :D

Now, I've been to Cairns three times, Brisbane twice, Melbourne twice, Sydney twice, Adelaide once(hate Adelaide!). Plus many smaller towns and cities close by. And of course, if things go to plan, I'm coming to Ireland!! :) That would be my first international flight! I need to get my passport ready after getting back from Darwin for my second time. :) I'll go get some baps from you Irish. :)

Her plays are worth traveling to watch, gaveecho. :) One was more serious about her life, (which is an amazingly inspiring story) and the other was a comedy where the American President accidentally rings a small town full of misfits and tells them to get ready for war. So funny! :) You can actually catch her in The Great Gatsby if you ever see it. :)

I'm sure to tell you what croc tastes like.

She plays Mrs McKee in The Great Gatsby. It's only a small part, but she acts with Tobey McGuire.

If you want a bit of a read about her, look up on google Australian Story- Walking with Kate Mulvany- Transcript.

It's the transcript of the show that abc did of her last year. I highly recommend you read it. She is the toughest person I know, read it, and you'll see. :)

Didn't see no crocs, but I still need to eat one! :D It didn't matter though, the view was amazing. Write in Katherine gorge in google images to see what I saw. :) Apparently it's awesome when it's wet, the waterfalls are everywhere! They said that they only cleared it of saltwater crocs for canoe trips. But it's still not entirely safe, according to the guide. He joked that they send the French and German backpackers up first. :D Apparently the freshwater crocs don't have big enough jaws to eat us, but I'm not willing to test the theory! :D Tomorrow I'm going where it has the biggest saltwater croc population in the world. Well, I guess you finally went to sleep! :D

I finished Tokyo Story. I loved it! I actually went in not knowing anything about the movie, and really was moved by it. Noriko, aah, what a beautiful smile! :) I could watch that all day! :D But I could feel sadness behind her smile, it felt forced at times, which was confirmed at the end. I'll admit that I wasn't sure what was happening at the start, it was slow, but it got to the point eventually, and I was fine with it. :) At the end of the film, I was annoyed by the sons and daughters. I was thinking how selfish they were. Then ten minutes after the movie finished, it made me think of my own life, and it was then that it went further up in my list. I was actually thinking it was going to be in the 500's, but if a film makes you think of your own life, then it deserves a higher ranking. I lost a grandad a few years ago. My nana is still alive, but she is lonely at times. It made me think that I should go see her more. I don't think I'm as selfish as the kids in Tokyo Story, but I can definitely make more of an effort to go see her.

We were tempted to not watch the movie and follow this weird guy that we saw. He was bald and ripped. You wanna know how I knew he was ripped? He had it tied at both ends of his hips, and he kept pulling them up really hard, exposing his bloody arse cheeks! :O But that's not it! He was walking along, looking right at the sun, with his arms open, like he looking for embrace. He was even walking in the road! All the vehicles had to slow down to avoid hitting him. I think he's never had drugs. ;)

I had to hide my head in the cinema because I am trying to avoid the Man of Steel trailer. :)

I'm on a pretty good run here to start off the summer - not a bad one yet! Life of Brian, Bride of Frankenstein, Blue Velvet and Before Sunset. I was surprised at how much I got into Blue Velvet. I'm still a bit wary charging off to try to get through Mulholland Dr. again, as Blue Velvet seemed a lot more conventional as a narrative. But I think I'll give it a shot in the next week or so. If you've not seen Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, I really enjoyed both of them.

I noticed Forrest Gump is pretty high on your chart. That's another one I can't say I'm itching to sit down and watch. Tom Hanks doesn't do much for me and the bits and pieces of the film I've seen on TV seem a bit... trite? What do you like about it?

A question. I'll be interested in your answer. What movie that you can think of (don't think too much about it) looked like you'd love it in every way. It even fell in a style of filming or genre you like, but for some reason, you didn't like it?

How often do you go to the cinemas? I can't remember the last movie in your recently seen list that was movie from a cinema?

Yeah, I go quite a lot considering I live so far away from a cinema. :) While I'm in the city, I'll watch two or three in a weekend, depending if the movies look good. I just can't wait with new movies coming. I have no patience! When I miss something in the cinema that I wanted to see, I get angry. :) I get even more angry when Australian cinemas don't have the movies in wide release. For example, Evil Dead and The Cabin in the Woods only made it to three cinemas in the whole country!!!

I consider all the movies that torture with no fun involved torture porn. Hostel and the Saw movies are some. Although, I don't mind the first Saw, I think James Wan showed some restraint on the first compared to the rest. Martyrs is another! But it's annoying for me, because so much of the rest of the movie really works for me. I think you'd have a bad time with that movie, gaveecho. All the Starks are kids now! It's like we've entered Harry Potter all of a sudden. I don't know, I'll give it a go, but it's strange. I was sad about the wolf as well (I"m not good with names:D) I like Jon Snow's girlfriend. Her accent (of course ;)), sense of humour and ferocity. Walder Frey and Joffrey of course are most hated. I also love to hate the big guy with the scarred face (sorry, I can't remember any names!). I don't like Dario either! He's too smug to me. I think if he gets a chance, he'll kill that older soldier with the blonde hair. :D Sorry!

I think we're supposed to like the kings slayer at the moment, but I think that they're doing that so when he does something evil again, we'll be shocked. I'm starting to wonder how the Starks stayed alive for so long! They can never see a double cross coming! :D

Have you seen any Boardwalk Empire or Sons of Anarachy? Those are shows that keep raising the bar each season. The last two seasons of SoA are right up there as some of the better television right now. Same goes for the last season of BE.

Okay, I'll ask him when I know him a bit better. But I think I'll leave out the aah tee tee part. :)

With the right frame of mind, The Story of Ricky is a lot of fun! :)

You can definitely see the Korean influence in the trailer. I'm excited for it! I just wish the trailer was better.

It's nice of you to ask whether I'm fine with the game comments, but can you remember what I said? I said I'm interested in anything you have to say, when I say it, I mean it. You're one of my favourite people to talk to on flickchart, say whatever you you feel like! :)

I have so many games to get through! I don't even know if I'm a Killlzone fan. I've got two games I haven't even played! :D I've been sold on Watch Dogs forma long time, plus he's Irish! He better drop a "feck!" in the game somewhere. What about the second Infamous game? Did you play that? I thoroughly enjoyed both, but I want to know where Cole Macgrath is.

I'll have a look at the red band trailer. :)

What's up with that Destiny game? I didn't understand what they meant in the trailer.

I enjoyed Forrest Gump much more than I thought I would, but In the Mood for Love was a huge discovery this week. Absolutely brilliant and actually cracked my top 10. It's probably the most beautiful film I've ever seen. I don't want to blow it out of proportion, as I doubt you'll have the same reaction, but it was a virtually perfect film for me, the kind I'd be likely to revisit in a matter of weeks.

It's cool, gaveecho. You've got a life, I understand that you won't reply (or even replay, like you said ;) ) instantly.

Awesome. :)

It seems like a new character, so I'm guessing no? But the other two are pretty fun as well. It wouldn't be terrible if you played one. But it kinda depends how many games you've got to get through.

I still need to get through some Assassin's Creed games. Some feel very similar, so I hope it's a bit different. I still like the games, though.

The developers are talking in the Destiny trailer about stuff, and I didn't know what they meant. I heard ten years at one stage.

I haven't played any Witcher games. are they new to Playstation? I wonder if I can just jump in at 3?

I just finished Max Payne 3! :) Now I'm moving onto The Last of Us. :)

I thought you'd enjoy the Knights of Badassdom trailer. It has a blend of Game of Thrones and Community! How could you not!?

It's pretty cool that Kate liked Taxi Driver like we do. :) Did you ever see that there was going to be a Taxi Driver game? It would take place after the film, and it would follow Travis as he gets revenge for the death of Iris. I even saw screenshots of it, but it must of fell through.

I wonder if the end of Dark Sorcerer is just a joke, so it is memorable to everybody. Maybe it does have comedy elements, the gobbling thing didn't look very evil.

I hadn't heard of dead dog tired either! :D But that's what came to mind when I was writing. I was really out of it! :D

I won't spoil, but the start of The Last of Us is stunning! People have been having trouble with auto-save, it wasn't working. Then manually saving wasn't either. I think they fixed it, I'm glad I don't have troubles.

You know how older movies don't usually make me laugh? I think I told you. Anyway, Arsenic and Old Lace is hilarious! I think it's my favourite Cary Grant performance, and I haven't even finished it yet! :)

Grant's Mortima is talking to Lane's Elaine.

Elaine says "you can't marry me one second, then throw me out of the house the next!"

Mortimer says "darling I'm not throwing you out of the house" *picks her up "I'm not throwing you out of the house" * throws her out "will you get out of here!!!"
Fantastic stuff. I laughed for so long! I watched it six or seven times. :D

I like the sound of the l2 and r2 buttons being more flexible and easier to use. I also like the look of the joysticks better. In some games, you have to maneuver the stick in different directions-I always had trouble with that. I think it might be easier on the new controller. What I think about the console? I don't really care what it looks like. It could be shaped like a platypus for all I care. Just as long as it works, and has awesome games, they can plonk whatever they want down in front of me. :)

Aside from being absolutely gorgeous to look at, In the Mood for Love worked for me on a purely emotional level too. I bought that relationship entirely, which I suppose might make or break the movie for you. There were so many great touches: the idea of them practicing the lines for talking to their spouses or his leaving the country, their ordering the other person's spouse's meal at the restaurant, the discovery of infidelity when they're talking about gifts brought back from business trips. It's all so subtle and graceful. The music was beautiful, the cinematography was beautiful, the costumes were beautiful. The last shots of him whispering into the hole were really moving for me. It captured yearning in a way that The Tree of Life did for me as well.

I could go on and on! I was shocked to be so taken aback by a romance. I figured my skin was a little tough for a film like ITMFL, but I was really emotionally involved in it.

Finally caught up with Mulholland Drive. I liked it well enough. I can see how it would grow in value over time and with repeated viewings. I'll be the first to admit that I didn't get a lot of it, but I think I've got an idea of what was going on. On one level, it seems to be a pretty scathing commentary on the Hollywood system and the way Los Angeles chews people up and spits them out.

I wasn't on board with all of it. One thing I'll single out: I think the scary bum behind the restaurant serves zero function except as some kind of bizarre symbol. Not sure I get his purpose in the whole thing... aside from being creepy, hahaha.

I watched this show the other day called Aussie Pickers. They go around Australia looking through junk for some hidden items worth money. They found an old bath with wooden legs, still in great condition. They made $500 dollars profit on the bath! I say this to you because our family had a old bath down a hill at our holiday hut, rusting out for years......... that was exactly the same! :O It was in good condition before it got put there as well! That's a bugger, shit, fuck, arse moment for swearing. :)

I'm very happy I could help, mate. :)

I'm still liking these quotes! :D

1. The Dark Knight: What are you doing to me Dinelka?! I can't answer that! Seriously! I just have to say The Joker- I simply can't break it down anymore than that. Possibly the interrogation scene- because The Joker is loving it so much. Sort of broke it down, but it's hard for me to like a part of The Joker better than another.

2. The Dark Knight Rises: It has to be the underground fight with Bane. I love the line 'so you think darkness is your ally, you merely adopted it- I was born in it!!' Close enough if I got part of it wrong.

3. 300: I love all the cheesy lines, but most memorable for me is Leonidas kicking the Persian down the hole- despite how many times it's been mocked since.

4. Fellowship of the Ring: 'You! Shall not, pass!!!'

5. Kick-Ass: I don't think I should tell you in fear of spoiling it for you.

6. Shoot 'Em Up: Anytime Smith is in a gunfight, or angry at someone! :D Love it. :) His anger at certain things matches my own. :D

7. Star Wars: The burning bodies of his family always stuck in my head.

8. Empire Strikes Back: 'I'm your father'

9. Raiders: The opening scene and fight near spinning plane.

10. The poster scene. Red carving his name.

Thanks for the recommendation buddy. :) Was it on YouTube?

Coincidentally, I bought a Walter Matthau movie today for $10. It's called Charley Varrick, it's a cop movie(I think :D) directed by Don Siegal(Dirty Harry). A Face in the Crowd also had Matthau! It's all coming up big for ol' Walter! :)

That's funny that we all watched Dennis the Menace!:D It was called just Dennis for Kate. :)

Yep, I saw The Maltese Falcon. :) I liked it(8/10) but Bogart annoyed me! Walking around being a wise-ass dickhead threatening to hit women(was that in this movie?)made me want to punch him in the throat. ;) A thing that annoys me about 40's movies is women are either fainting for stupid reasons, or that they were the mastermind behind some evil deed all along! Countless times I've seen those two things consistantly happen in 40's movies.

Maniac was great, but I like horror movies. How do you handle them? It has some very graphic scenes, not for the faint-hearted. I loved the score! It had a very 80's feel to it, much like how Drive did. I loved the perspective of the killer and the performance by Elijah Wood. It's probably a 7.5/10 for me. :) Oh, I haven't seen the original, but will get to it now at some stage. :)

Evil Dead 2! Bruce Campbell is a physical acting genius, plus he has great sense for comedy as well.

The Shining! What a kick in the balls that movie is! Jack Nicholson gives one of my favourite performances that truly creeped me out.

Suspiria! I just love the visual style of the movie! Plus the creatures are ones that really aren't covered as much as others, which I appreciated.

Rosemary's Baby! I had this for about five years before I saw it!! :D Man, this movie just left me with a dreaded feeling, that I really appreciated. :)

I Saw the Devil! I guess this counts? I absolutely love the blend of action and horror in this movie. It feature the actor from Oldboy, who delivers a performance that has stuck with me for some time.

I loved House of the Devil. The amount of suspense it created was wonderful and reminded me of the works of Hitchcock. I thought that the last 10 minutes were a bit of the standard "satanic" conclusions though. But everything else leading up to that point was nearly flawless and was crafted just like an old 80's horror film.

Stake Land was a big surprise for me. It's what I believe that apocalypse films should be focused on: characters. I actually cared when some of them died. Now all you see in apocalyptic films are blood, gore, sex, and no character development. It's a bit disappointing.

This was my third Tarkovsky and I'd recommend both Stalker and Ivan's Childhood before Solaris. I'll need to revisit it, but Solaris came off cold and lifeless (though it could be argued that's the point) whereas both Stalker and Ivan's Childhood worked really well for me. I'd say start with Ivan's Childhood, then go to Stalker. From what I understand, Stalker is considered Tarkovsky's masterpiece, and I always hate to start there with an auteur.

Stalker has some of the most incredible set design I've seen. I was astonished by how beautiful almost every frame of the film was and yet it all seems so naturalistic. That's actually been a theme for me this summer. Many of the films I've loved (The Red Shoes, Black Narcissus, Stalker, Wake In Fright, In the Mood for Love, Stoker) have had really lush visuals and a great sense of art direction. Stalker's a bit of an enigma, so don't go in expecting to figure it all out. I wouldn't be surprised if you found it pretty accessible though, either. It's got a reputation for being this unsolvable mess of symbols and psychobabble, but I think you'll find that's crap.

Maybe I just changed my own mind... Stalker might be the place to start! Either way, be sure to check it out! It bears quite a bit of resemblance to 2001 and Apocalypse Now, I think.

*****Spoilers for True Blood Season Six Ep 3*****

Really bland ep, nothing really shocking or interesting happens.

I'm over Vinny collapsing with no reason. Just bloody tell us! He'll probably be able to see dead people. Then he'll have to learn to not fight it.

Lafayette killed it again. No voodoo makes him so much better a character.

The noise Bill made as he ran through the door on fire was such an evil delight to me! :D I'm sure you agree, my evill little friend. ;)

When Sam get's the girl, where did the pants come from? But I'll overlook it, because it's better than seeing him go naked in the bushes with her. That would be MUCH worse!

I really hoped that other girl would be killed by the werewolves as well. How stupid was that!

That Flynn(can't remember his first name) guy was really bad I thought. Every conversation with Sookie felt bland, and the conversation with Rutger Hauer about joining him felt rushed and badly written.

*****Spoilers for True Blood*******

You and gaveecho have now told me to watch Luther(he backed you up). I trust you two the most on Flickchart, so it's a high priority. :)

I'm glad you enjoyed them! We are really looking forward to seeing Before Midnight here as well. The art house is showing it in about a week or so.

I'm really intrigued by Spring Breakers, if only because of the responses it's getting from so many people. It seems to be a bit of a love-it or hate-it thing and I'll admit to being interested in anything that's ever been considered controversial. Franco's a good actor and I've heard he's pretty impressive in it as well, so it's a sealed deal for me. I'll catch it when I'm back in the States in a couple weeks.

I adored Chungking Express. It didn't impress me as much as In the Mood for Love on my first viewing, but it's around #50 on my chart and wouldn't be at all surprised to see it climb into the top 20 or so later. That guy's visual style is just so mesmerizing and the music is so great. I loved Faye! She's one of the all-time screen charmers for me. The whole film was just so much fun.

I recently saw Wages of Fear as well. It was very good and feels decades ahead of its time. The ending leaves a lot of be desired for me, though. Not sure if you've seen it or not, but it's definitely worth checking out.

Just giving Max an Aussie accent has moved it from my least anticipated, to one of my most anticipated. I think a game of Mad Max will also sever the connection to Mel Gibson, make it easier for me to see Tom Hardy as Max(unless he doesn't nail the Aussie accent).

Have you ever heard of any of these sayings?

About as useful as tits on a bull

Flat out like a lizard drinking

Got a face like a bashed in shit can

Better than a poke in a eye with a burnt stick

Sure as there is cold shit in a dead cat

I feel like a dog's breakfast

Drier than witches tits in the desert

As slow as a wet week

I love the score in The Proposition as well! Great unsettling score from Nick Cave(he did a great job with the script as well. When I watch The Proposition, I feel dirty. The whole movie gives me the feel of dirt and sweat that leaves me wanting a shower. :D

Man, how friggin' amazing was the part where you play as Ellie?! That's so of the best fun I've experienced in a game. I liked the David character as well! It's great that he and Ellie had team up.

How great was this part?!

'Ellie, my name is Ellie tell them that's the name of the little girl who broke you fucking finger!' just fantastic!

I see why you didn't want to say anything about the score! The giraffe part was fantastic.

I'm just up to the part where he finds out what the Fireflies have intended for Ellie. Joel isn't very happy. :)

I just finished! :) 10/10.

What a finish! What a game! I knew Joel was brutal, but he kept surprising me every time he killed someone.

I thought that Joel was going to be killed. I'm glad I was wrong!

I didn't check, can you kill all three doctors?

I liked that Joel lied to Ellie so her mind would be at ease. :)

Nah, it's not bad you killed the doctor without hesitation. It's a game, I will be cross at you if you kill a doctor in real life though. :D

I actually hesitated to kill the doctor! It's surprises me really. I'm the guy who spent an hour and a half in Red Dead Redemption lassoing about six random innocent people and leaving them all in a row on the train track to see what would happen. It's times like these that I wish every game has slow motion and instant replay. :D

It would have to be a good reason to see Joel and Ellie again. The story was in a good place when we finished. Maybe Ellie older? Maybe a prequel with that brother duo. It could be a very sad game, knowing what's going to happen to them.

Modern or not, you've got a good taste in films. I strongly suggest you to re-watch the original Star Wars trilogy. Two of them are in my top 20. I'd be happy to give you some recommendations but many of the films that I wanted to recommend (Double Indemnity, Notorious, Casablanca etc) are ones that you've already seen! Thanks for the compliment btw. My top 20 constantly changes around so within a month, I'm expecting a very different list. If I get around to some good films that you haven't seen, I'll most definitely recommend them to you. I'm glad you have The Godfather 1 and 2 in your top 10. I'm planning to re-watch The Godfather Part II which is slowly growing on me. :)

**********spoilers for Luther S3 ep 1**************

It was a great opener wasn't it!!

Really creepy villain, hiding under beds and under that sheet, yikes that was so well done.
At the end the woman annoyed me by not even trying to escape the house when she realised what was happening, but it certainly ramped up the tension didn't it!
When the guy's head came out of the ceiling I was so scared, lol!

I was afraid Luther would get caught hanging that guy over the ledge too! I wonder what will happen with the surveillance of him that's going on, it's all very interesting that they're trying to bring him down.

A Luther movie would work so well I think, Idris Elba is so good in the role, I love how he plays it too.

I didn't watch the teaser 'next week' bits in the credits because they tend to show too much. When do you get to see it? It's on here tomorrow night :)

Funnily enough, believe me or not but I actually re-watched The Godfather Part II for the fourth time and I can finally say that I am starting to love it!! It's taken quite a bit of time to grow on me but the film is really, really pleasing me. Whereas Part I only took two viewings, Part II has taken four viewings and is finally in my top 20!

I can definitely recommend you Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom which is such a divided film amongst Indy fans. I love the total change from Raiders and I just think that it's one of the most enjoyable films! Such a fan film, besides John Williams' musical score in THAT film in particular is breathtaking! :)

So what did you think?
I found the pace a bit better this week, but it still scared me!
I got woken up shortly after going to sleep a couple of hours after watching the ep, there were foxes making those awful noises they make, outside my window.....I was terrified for a second! Lol.

That guy in the home was so creepy!! And his apprentice, when he put the toothbrushes in his mouth....:O
I knew he was going to jump out the window.
Nice that Ripley's got Luther's back, and now he knows it.

I'm not really feeling the budding relationship Luther's having with the hippy chick, but I think it's building to something in the next episode, hopefully something dramatic.
