Breakdown vs. Swimming Pool

After two viewings, I still don't get the ending of Swimming Pool. I do admit that both times I was more interested in watching Ludivine Sagnier in a bikini (or less) than figuring out what was going on, though. Breakdown is an easy movie to figure out, however: Kurt Russell's wife gets kidnapped and he puts the hurt on the bastards who did it, which is entertaining in a visceral sort of way. I don't think that I actually care if I ever understand Swimming Pool, because I figure the ending is as important as dialogue is in a porno flick, at least for my purposes. But not understanding Swimming Pool does give me an excuse to keep rewatching it without having to officially acknowledge that I have less than artistically motivated reasons for doing so. Swimming Pool it is.

Swimming Pool is more intriguing and it has more depth. Charlotte Rampling gives a mesmerizing performance in Swimming Pool as well. Breakdown is an exciting but very standard and unbelievable action movie.
