Probably my #1 & #2 movies of all-time. From Here to Eternity is my favourite, but All About Eve is one of the greatest scripts of dialogue ever!

Yeah, Joseph L. Mankiewicz's screenplay gives All About Eve the edge here.
From Here to Eternity really was near of the suck, but Lancaster and Zinnemann, they saved the day. Still worse than Eve though.

Strange matchup of films, but have to go with FROM HERE TO ETERNITY. Montgomery Clift's performance should have won best actor but he most likely lost because Lancaster was nominated in the same category. The whole cast was great and though the film was sanitized to get the army's cooperation, it still has impact today.
