I don't know why, but I feel like they're the same movie. Both of them had to talk previously built up franchises and make a highly anticipated summer blockbuster out of them. I hold both Whedon and J.J. in the highest regards, but I have to say that Whedon holds out by the tiniest of hairs.

LOOOOVE BOTH!!!! Gotta say Star Trek, easily the best reboot of all time IMO....Both definitely top 20 films

The Avengers
Abrams Star Trek was my introduction to that universe, and it was a good introduction, really liked Star Trek. The Avengers was better though; funnier, greater action, more memorable moments and a better set of characters in my opinion.
Two movies I don't seem to love as much as other people, but I DID still really enjoy them. The Avengers had the much better (and more memorable) villain and the better action, though. I think I'll rewatch the Star Trek reboot when Into Darkness hits Blu-ray.
Slight lean to The Avengers. Could change down the road...
