The Lighthouse for me although both are fantastic
I liked The Lighthouse, but I honestly think it's Eggers's weakest movie so far; it's good, but it's a little too "artsy-fartsy" for my liking. The Northman was an absolute blast, though.

I did watch The Northman, but I do think The Lighthouse is just objectively a better film. It's shot better, truly atmospheric, and an extremely well-made film. The Northman, for all its benefits, still has its fair share of issues. Not too many, but still issues nonetheless such as underdeveloped villains, some clunky exposition, etc.

The lighthouse is amazing but you can see in The Northman what Eggers can do without budgetary restraints. It's a sweeping, fantastical and brutal film. I would be happily amazed if he ever makes a better movie.
