A couple of kidnapped woman movies. I haven't seen the original version of The Vanishing in many years, but I can definitely say that it's the more disturbing flick in this matchup. Breakdown is far more action-oriented, while The Vanishing is understated psychological horror. The villains in both movies are plenty evil, but it's the way The Vanishing turns out that sticks with the viewer. The Vanishing offers a deeper insight into how an evil mind operates, which is what makes it interesting, but Breakdown is more entertaining. Sitting through the bleakness of The Vanishing isn't something I want to do very often. (NOTE: Breakdown is definitely superior to The Vanishing remake. Of that, I have no doubt.)

I prefer the more action packed and entertaining Breakdown although The Vanishing is worth a view.
