Never Say Never Again vs. Thunderball

Ha! The original and the remake in one fell swoop. Gotta go with the original.

Usually, the original is much better than the remake. In this case, though, it's the exact opposite. Never Say Never Again is so much better in almost every category; Brandauer is a much more charismatic villain than Celi; Basinger is a better actress than Auger; even Sean Connery gives a more memorable performance in Never Say Never Again. Also, I have always found Thunderball to be relatively boring, while Never Say Never Again is probably one of the most entertaining Bond movies. Gotta love the 80s style!

To be honest, I don't care for either film all that much. I have to go with NSNA too. At least the pacing is much better than the drowsy Thunderball.

How can you possibly make a remake of Thunderball that's even more dull and even more forgettable? Never Say Never Again shows it's possible. I do like Thunderball more than most it seems, but I do agree that it is a weak follow-up to Goldfinger. Thunderball has some classic imagery, it's shorter, it has a great theme song and it has some pretty entertaining action scenes (even though they're poorly shot and edited). Never Say Never Again just...bleh. It's so weak.

First off Thunderball is amazing if you ask me and it is my favorite Bond film from Connery. Never Say Never Again is a very poor remake. Thunderball does everything better. Connery is better, Domino is far better, Largo is better, Fiona is better than Fatima, and the story is executed much better. Thunderball sends Never Say Never Again to the depths.

I don't even like Thunderball, but it looks like a damn masterpiece compared to Never Say I Have to Watch This Movie Again.

Thunderball is one of the best in the Bond series, Never Say Never Again is one of the worst.

Thunderball is my favorite Bond film.

I wrote a Reel Rumbles piece about this match. In the end, I picked NSNA. I stand by that.

I love both Never Say Never Again and Thunderball, but it was easier for me to stay awake while watching Never Say Never Again.

Never Say Never Again in honestly a more enjoyable movie.

I still think piece by piece NSNA has advantages over TB, but taken as a whole I now feel TB is somehow greater than the sum of those parts. At minimum, it's got one critical thing: style.
