The themes explored in Grand Illusion are so much more fascinating to me than those found in The Rules of the Game. I found The Rules of the Game to be rather empty, actually.

Agreed completely. Though I don't feel the need to watch either again.

Both only get better with more viewings. Both are amazing. Both need your attention. But I love Grand Illusion a little more.
