I suppose that Shatner thought he could do what Nimoy did. Maybe he would have been able to if the script of The Final Frontier hadn't been a mess.
Wow, I'm shocked these two haven't been discussed until now. The Voyage Home has always been a favorite of mine.

I know I'm in the minority, but I favor "The Final Frontier" by just a bit. It has a great original series vibe, and even though it falls short I admire its storytelling ambition. Plus there's Goldsmith's score!

STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME is one of the better original cast films in the franchise.

Star Trek rule: Odd beats even EVEN time. The Voyage Home is quite fun.
