As fantastic as the first film was, I couldn’t believe how much better the sequel turned out.

As much as I enjoyed the second one and admire its artistic achievements, the first one currently holds up better as a complete package. I just felt slightly underwhelmed by the story and character arcs of the second film, partly because the first one set the bar so high and partly because of the cliffhanger ending of the second. Perhaps when the third and final film comes out it will wrap everything up and the trilogy will be an excellent package, but for now, the first film of the Spider-Verse saga is my favourite.

Both are masterpieces but for me it’s Across the Spider-Verse

Across was a clear improvement, I thought. It doubled down on the beloved animation of the first film and it was all the better for it, plus it gave its characters more moments to breathe and develop. The emotional impact was much more effective as a result.
