Despite the fact that My Fellow Americans might have been the last or penultimate good leading role for Dan Aykroyd in his lengthy and prolific career and one that was consistently funny and ultimately heartwarming, What Lies Beneath is probably the movie that sets the bar for the modern movie thriller in my book. Seeing the movie in a half-packed budget theater, I was clutching the person next to me for a solid third of the movie and even years later, knowing the story, plot twists and all, the movie still stirred the same feelings of dread and anxiety while I watched. Easily the win goes to What Lies Beneath.
