The Mist vs. Cloverfield

Cloverfield's monsters take it, even with The Mist having one of the best endings in recent memory.

Okay, I did really, really like Cloverfield. It's a little bit shy of my Top 100. But that same ending is the reason I have to go for The Mist.

I found The Mist to be a lot more memorable than Cloverfield (which I did enjoy immensely), and it stands up to multiple viewings.

Cloverfield was not a good film. I could respect the bold cinematography style, but in the end it didn't work for the film the as a whole. Also If you look at the poster for Cloverfield the Statue of Liberty faces the other way. The Mist was infinitely better than Cloverfield.

I like both of these films, The Mist because that retarded religious bitch dies and because the ending had me laughing for a long time. While Cloverfield was a unique experience and kept me interested all the way through and then some. With that said, I think cloverfield is a better film. While I enjoy The Mist for what I guess are the wrong reasons.

Cloverfield was enjoyable. It came in and did its thing. But, honestly, for me it’s one of those movies that in 10 years I’ll probably have forgotten what it was about. Whereas The Mist’s ending kicked me in the teeth; it stayed with me for a long time. I’ve read a lot of reviews where people found the ending ridiculous. I disagree. I found it rife with gritty realism. The Mist wouldn’t rate so high with me if it had a happy ending where father and son reunite with Mom at the end.

Cloverfield has my vote

Cloverfield is a pretty vacant experience. Sure shit happens, but it all feels rather mundane and the POV style doesn't have a whole lot of charm (outside of porn). The Mist was a solidly entertaining flick. Slides into the melodramatic now and then and, yes, it is a little maladroit and hammy at times (what with the whispering) but it's good fun. For the first 45 mins or so I wasn't sure what to make of it. Came across like a low-brow satire but it didn't bring the funny. In the end, the solipsist in me enjoyed it more as a blunt essay on widespread human stupidity; the very rife idiocy that society is built on. Then there's the matter of the ending. It was gonna happen, it wasn't ever hidden and, in truth, it had to happen. It was absolutely the correct ending given the mood of the film. But of course the timing of it just fuels my theory that The Mist is fundamentally a critique of the moronic decision making process of man. SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS. It was totally rational for the passengers to off themselves BUT any half way intelligent squad would've held off until the last possible minute. So yeah, even the supposedly intelligent characters ended up dead of their own ineptitude. What's more, it's very possible that e'rybody inside the store survived. The idiots shall inherit the Earth. (Note: I'm not sure how much of this "essay" that I see in the film is intentional. Nevertheless, it is the best way for me to enjoy it.)

Thoroughly enjoyed both movies. I am still awed that the studio let Darabont roll with the ending to The Mist. Ballsy to the max. I'm gonna go with Cloverfield by a nose though...

The Mist by far. I honestly think it's an outstanding film.

Cloverfield was pretty decent, but yeah, The Mist is much better.
