Fantastic Mr. Fox vs. Alvin and the Chipmunks

Sometimes kid's movies can surprise you, and give a stylistic, original yet familiar adaptation that really takes advantage of what animation can do, as well as putting a big emphasis on story and character. Sometimes kid's movies don't bother, because kids are stupid, and not even Tobias Funke could save them. Fantastic Mr. Fox is a masterpiece, because it's trying. Alvin and the Chipmunks isn't, because it just doesn't care.

TheHonestFilmFan broke down this matchup excellently, although I'm not sure I'd categorize Fantastic Mr. Fox merely as a kids' movie. Alvin and the Chipmunks is cute, but it's still formulaic tripe. Easy choice...

Alvin and the Chipmunks was made by fucking satan. I wanted to gouge my eyes out watching that terrible, terrible movie. It remains one of the worst movies of all time, Fantastic Mr. Fox was enjoyable.
