This match up really hurts my heart because I loved both of these movies for separate reasons. Avatar was a beautifully done movie. Although the story line was cliche to a point what was done with it was quite imaginative. The whole world of Pandora was imaginative and different. I love all the Sam Raimi's Spiderman movies and Tobey Maguire will always be Spiderman to me, The second movie solidified the character's internal struggle of whether or not he really wants to be Spiderman or not. Sure it's easier being normal but can he live without the excitement and the satisfaction of saving people. Will there ever be a time where Spiderman isn't needed? I'm going to pick Avatar though just because as far as detailed it was so different from anything seen before and it did a great job of explaining everything with out slowing down the pace of the movie.

Spider-Man 2 smashes Avatar. Avatar is crap with no subtitle or substance, it’s like a newer TRON, take away the revolutionary special effects and all you have is a crap film. Spider-Man 2 is far better with characters, themes, tones, pacing, story etc.
Spider-Man 2 is about five thousand times the better film. Seriously.
