Dunkirk vs. There Will Be Blood

A worthy comparison, going with Dunkirk.

Dunkirk edges out there will be blood here

I honestly could see shades of Blood in Dunkirk, what with the impressionist richness, oil-smeared faces, and a parallel between the fates of HW and George. Two astonishing achievements from two consummate modern auteurs, but There Will Be Blood, indeed.

Ther Will Be Blood mostly crushes here and everywhere.

There Will Be Blood is great but it's no Dunkirk

There Will Be Blood is my second favorite film of all time so Dunkirk doesn't measure up.

With two movies this good, it pretty much just comes down to personal preference. Dunkirk gets my vote. I love the narrative structure of this movie with the interweaving stories moving at different paces and the entire cast puts in great work. War films have always fascinated me, and Dunkirk quickly became one of my favorites. There Will Be Blood is still a tremendous film. I have no argument against it when people call it a masterpiece. Paul Thomas Anderson made stellar movies leading up to this one, but I feel like There Will Be Blood is in serious contention for his crowning achievement. It's almost too good in the fact that his movies made afterwards, while still good, have a noticeably inferior feeling to them following in There Will Be Blood's deep footsteps. Dunkirk takes it for me, but you really can't go wrong with either one.

Dunkirk is one of the most suspenseful and gripping movies I've ever watched and will likely go way up on my list upon rewatch. That being said, There Will Be Blood is currently the far better film. It's cinematography is perfect and PTA is in full control of his craft. The story structure is impeccable and flawless. It's an emotionally raw and resonant movie with some of the best acting of all time. So yeah, There Will Be Blood pretty easily overtakes Dunkirk for me

There Will Be Blood has my favorite performance from Daniel Day Lewis and the best performance I've ever seen. But Dunkirk is an amazing war film and one of the best I've ever seen so it wins here. But don't get me wrong There Will Be Blood had brilliant cinematography and an amazing first 15 minutes and an amazing ending.
