Dunkirk vs. Atonement

Atonement's single tracking shot on Dunkirk is one of the finest pieces of cinematography and production design of the new millennium. To add to that, the performances, script and soundtrack are excellent. But Dunkirk is on another level. A lot of films in my top 100 are films which probably shouldn't be here I.e. films which I watched once and never saw again, loved them but probably wouldn't love as much upon repeat viewing. That is not the case for either of these, but in the case of Dunkirk, its spot in the top 100 is more than earned. Everything and everyone is in top form, with Christopher Nolan seemingly having leaned from the mistakes that held his previous two films back. One of the best films of the decade so far, and the best film I have seen in the cinema since Rush. Both excellent, but Dunkirk wins.
