Belle de jour vs. Jules and Jim

Two French New Wave titans. Really, Jules and Jim isn't *particularly* New Wavy, and as a fan of war narratives it's the one I prefer. It's a good psychological portrait, though not as self-consciously so as Belle.

Jules and Jim is easy choice.

Jules and Jim is extremely nouvelle vague, but belle de jour isn't really

Sure it is, Belle is basically Vivre sa vie. Slicker, because yes, it was getting late in the day for the movement. As usual for Truffaut, though, Jules is a straightforward, almost traditional narrative (at least on the surface), without many of the usual markers of New Wave social concerns. Underneath the surface they are there, but in Belle they're text rather than subtext, which is more fitting for New Wave.

There's not too many movies I dislike more than Jules and Jim....

Jules and Jim for me. It is my favorite from Truffaut. I do feel though like I need to watch Belle de Jour a second time to give it a fair chance.
