Hmmm, too oscar hopefuls, one which got too much praise and one which probably didn't get enough (though it did have a very competitive year to be fair). As much as I enjoyed Shakespeare in Love as a light period drama, with some entertaining flair to it, Life of Pi is on a completely different level in terms of production values, vision and experience. No contest here.
