The Last Laugh vs. Diary of a Lost Girl

Pabst vs. Murnau. Two great films. The Last Laugh is a fantastic evocation of later life and the shame of encroaching, enforced social redundancy. The Diary of Lost Girl deals with shame of an entirely different nature, Louise Brooks being outcast, raised in a brutal establishment for lost girls, then becoming a prostitute (quite happily it would seem, even auctioning her services at a party). Of the two, The Last Laugh is the better film, but Diary of a Lost Girl is well worth the watching.
