The Invention of Lying did go for a more philosophical level of comedy than the cruder Blades of Glory. I'm not saying philosophical comedy is always better than crude comedy, but I liked what The Invention of Lying was going for. Unfortunately, it wasted time on an unconvincing romance instead of skewering human BS more thoroughly. Blades of Glory is a bunch of goofy jokes, some of which are actually funny, that don't say much of anything. Blades of Glory may be the funnier movie overall, but it gets stale after a while. Probably The Invention of Lying wins this.
