Midsommar vs. Halloween

Carpenter's best vs. Aster's best (so far). Midsommar had great themes, gorgeous visuals and excellent performances, especially by Florence Pugh. But Halloween is an absolute horror masterpiece, the best slasher there is. The norm seems to be that slashers are dumb, but along with A Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream, it's one of the only clever ones. Ari Aster could stop making movies now and he still would be seen as a master of horror, but Carpenter is THE master of horror.

Also, just noticed now that both of these are Pagan holidays. Midsommar vs. Samhain. Heh.

I'm not usually this blunt, but I hate Midsommar; I wouldn't go so far as to call it the worst movie I've ever seen, but it's definitely one of the most overrated movies I've ever seen. It's just a boring, tedious slog, and I genuinely don't understand why people talk about it as though it's some super scary fucked up snuff film. Halloween is undeniably dated, but it makes Midsommar seem quaint by comparison.
