"Defend the one you love. Slander the one you don't."
It's slander to say that I don't love Toy Story. But I haven't seen it in an excessively long time, at least since Toy Story 3 was still in theaters. It may have even been ten years. I can still remember so much expressive animation from it, but Marnie has my heart right now. A rewatch of Toy Story may reveal choosing Marnie as a "lost weekend," but that film is as brilliant, as beautiful, and is more insightful about the human condition. A rarity like few others.
Both films deal with identity in some way. Toy Story asks "Am I just a toy?" When Marnie was There asks "Am I loved?" Which to pick, which to pick...
