Mean Streets vs. The Departed

Really wish I'd seen Mean Street at some point in the last 5 years... but alas, it's been even longer than that.

The Departed is more polished and exciting, but I feel Mean Streets is the more insightful, powerful, and important film.

Mean Streets would have been better if it had, you know, an actual plot. The Departed absolutely destroys it here.

The Departed wins for me. Leonardo DiCaprio is pretty much flawless in that movie and it is really suspenseful toward the end.

To the guy who said Mean Streets needed a plot, that wasn't the objective of the movie. It was a STORY, not a plot. It told the story of Johnny Boy and Charlie, and their time in the mob. Plot doesn't always make a movie good, either. Mean Streets had more of Scorsese's soul in it, so I gotta go with that.

Can't help but choose The Departed here...
