Seven is some of the best American Noir storytelling out there. The Ring is a cheap American imitation of zany Japanese horror.

While watching The Ring, I couldn't shrug off the feeling that its makers were trying to emulate Se7en's atmosphere. Incessant rains in a greenish grey palette are unique to Se7en's mise en scène. But can't say the effect was adequately achieved. Se7en has far too much going for it aside from having the right look.
