Metropolis vs. Metropolis

Classic silent sci-fi or dynamic anime reimagining? I'll take Lang's crushing, brilliant vision, but Rintaro deserves a cavalcade of accolades for one of anime's greatest visual accomplishments.

Fritz Lang's Metropolis is #2 on my top 20 list of favorite movies of all time - so there really is no question which one I would pick here! Though I'm quite fond of anime movies (I have four or five Studio Ghibli movies in my top 20 aswell) Metropolis (2001) didn't impress me much. The way the humans were animated just really annoyed me, I thought they were very ugly and didn't mix well with the beautiful city landscapes. The characters and the way the story was told didn't appeal to me very much either. I did, however, think the ending was rather nice.
