Some Like It Hot vs. The Seven Year Itch

This is a really close matchup between two films that I like, but hardly love. Some Like It Hot is occasionally quite funny, but the gags get old after a while. The film is just too long for a comedy (I often have a problem with comedies that approach or exceed two hours). Still, it stays very watchable throughout. The Seven Year Itch was apparently based on a stage play, and the stagey vibe is impossible to not notice as you watch the film version. Yet, like Some Like It Hot, it manages to remain watchable from beginning to end. In the end, I say Some Like It Hot wins a close one here, if only because there are moments/scenes within it that make the film feel...special. The Seven Year Itch doesn't really have any such moments, other than that one "iconic" scene, which doesn't feel all that iconic once you actually see it.

The Seven Year Itch is a good one from Wilder, but Some Like it Hot is one of his best.
