Astro Boy vs. X

X is a far more uncompromising vision, but it's such a hatchet job of the source material. Astro Boy was surprisingly faithful to the tone of Tezuka's original, despite being an American cartoon through and through. It also has far more emotional complexity than the X film, which is really strange for me to admit.

That is surprising. Granted, I'm not familiar with Osamu Tezuka's original Astro Boy, but the film feels like a bad blend of fluffiness and childishness with the occasional injection of philosophical adrenalin. I won't rank X because it's been so long since I've seen it, but I know I enjoyed it more than Astro.
